Overview
Paramedic role at Sierra Medical Services Alliance (SEMSA). Location: Susanville, CA. This position is full-time and involves field work in pre-hospital EMS settings. Responsibilities
Provide consistent, high quality prehospital care as outlined by the SEMSA Standard of Care, Protocols, and accepted local and national treatment doctrines. Maintain a safe, professional demeanor and act as a catalyst for professionalism, integrity, confidentiality, and competency with patients, families, the public, other agencies, coworkers, and SEMSA management. Commit to self-improvement, lifelong learning, and currency of required certifications and licenses. Maintain and improve EMS leadership skills and provide feedback for improvements in working conditions, patient care, and system performance. Ensure timely, legible, and accurate recordkeeping. Educate the public, students, and coworkers; assume responsibility for patient care from first contact to transfer to a higher level of care. Be willing to work overtime as necessary and perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications & Experience
Current Paramedic certification in the State of California required. ACLS, CPR, PHTLS/ITLS, PALS certifications required. CA Ambulance Driver’s License – CA Resident; Valid Nevada/California Driver’s license required. Medical Examiner’s Certification and Norcal Certification; NREMT-Paramedic preferred. Experience in a high-performance ALS system is beneficial. Experience in EMS and public education (field or classroom) preferred; pre-hospital experience preferred. Additional Skills
Experience operating an emergency vehicle is a plus; clean driving record required. Knowledge of medical policies, procedures, SEMSA Standard of Care, and excellent written and verbal skills. Self-starter, adaptable to change, and able to function in a team-based management structure. Working Conditions & Physical Demands
Primarily field work; riding in an ambulance or medical helicopter; adverse working conditions may apply. Ability to lift over 100 pounds up to 20 times daily; ability to walk, stoop, climb, twist, bend, run, sit, squat, kneel, and work in awkward positions when moving patients. Require protective clothing for all weather conditions and exposure to airborne, bloodborne, and other hazards; potential hazards include emergency driving and trauma scenes. Essential Job Tasks
Independent lifting and carrying of essential equipment; moving patients with gurneys, backboards, or scoop stretchers; stair chair handling; patient transfers and positioning; and related tasks. Perform lifts and transfers and assist in moving patients to appropriate care locations. Comply with safety and PPE requirements and work under emergent conditions as needed. Privacy & Compliance
Protect patient privacy in accordance with company policies, procedures, and applicable laws; report concerns to the Privacy Officer as required. Access to protected health information (PHI) is limited to job necessity and shared only with individuals who need to know for treatment, payment, or operations. Participate in privacy training and communicate privacy policy information to coworkers, students, patients, and others in accordance with company policy. Compensation & Employment Type
