Overview

Licensed Practical Nurse, PT at Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities – Cambridge Developmental Center. The final applicant selected may be required to submit to urinalysis prior to appointment to test for illegal drug use. An applicant with a positive test result will not be offered employment. Responsibilities

Perform skilled practical nursing procedures or treatments (e.g., administer oxygen; conduct blood glucose testing; apply sterile dressings; insert catheters; give enemas and douches; collect specimens). Assist physicians with client and new employee physical exams, treatments and/or lab tests; assist in emergencies (e.g., first aid, CPR, restraining clients). Conduct neurological and circulation assessments and administer medications in oral, rectal or injection form; provide medication instructions to clients. Maintain medication records, chart client records, prepare and count medications, maintain medication stock and medical equipment and supplies. Provide general nursing and direct care (e.g., vital signs, personal grooming and hygiene, bathing, daily living activities) and administer topical treatments and eye/ear/nose drops. Assist in training lower-level direct care staff and participate in meetings as assigned (e.g., in-service training, nursing meetings). Observe, document and report client conditions and treatment responses; prepare and maintain related reports and records; perform clerical tasks as required. Qualifications and Skills

Knowledge of skilled licensed practical nursing procedures; pharmacology; client care; first aid; general hospital practices and procedures. Skill in use of medical equipment (e.g., respirator, sterilizer, oxygen equipment, blood pressure cuff, hypodermics). Ability to understand practical concepts, recognize unusual or threatening conditions and take appropriate emergency action; develop good rapport with patients/clients; follow manuals and verbal instructions related to practical nursing. License to practice nursing as a licensed practical nurse issued by the Ohio Board of Nursing pursuant to Section 4723 Ohio Revised Code; proof of completion of an approved course in medication administration. Note: Licensed Practical Nurses who administer dialysis treatment must possess Certification in IV Therapy. About the Organization
