Job Description About the Unit 4West is a high acuity 21-bed progressive care unit that provides specialized nursing care for adult patients requiring various oxygen therapies including BIPAP, administration of titratable and non-titratable medications, as well as administration of blood products. Cardiac diagnoses include post cardiac catheterization, myocardial infarctions, and congestive heart failure exacerbations. Pulmonary patients may include chronic respiratory disease complications including cystic fibrosis, tracheotomy, interstitial lung disease, pulmonary emphysema, pulmonary fibrosis and related conditions.

Responsibilities The Registered Nurse (Hospital-Based) delivers nursing care to patients of varying age groups by utilizing the nursing process and standards. The RN demonstrates competency caring for complex patients and participates on the care team to improve the quality of care in the clinical area. The RN:
Performs comprehensive assessments and coordinates care with the healthcare team, patient and family, addressing age, gender, spiritual, cultural, physical and psychosocial needs.
Administers medications within licensure authority; assesses and reassesses effects; documents and adheres to safety guidelines.
Plans care using current scientific knowledge, theory, and standards; develops individualized, age-specific plans; integrates multidisciplinary input.
Identifies and prioritizes patient problems and ensures alignment with patient and family goals.
Implements nursing interventions to meet patient and family needs; demonstrates clinical judgment to promote safety and outcomes.
Assesses and evaluates patient and family teaching; tailors education to age, learning needs and cultural background.
Evaluates care and revises the plan with the care team to promote outcomes; prevents or intervenes on adverse events to maintain safety.
Advocates for patients and families; prepares for discharge and seeks feedback to improve satisfaction.
Works collaboratively with unlicensed assistive personnel, per regulatory requirements, to ensure safe patient care.
Education Education
Associate’s Degree in Nursing from an accredited nursing program (required).
All new-hire Associate Degree RNs are required to start an approved BSN program within one year and complete it within three years (required).
Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (preferred).
Experience
All new RN graduates will participate in the Nurse Residency program and must successfully complete all activities (required).
Two years of hospital patient care experience (preferred).
Licensure
Current KY RN licensure or compact license with privileges to work in Kentucky (required).
Certification
Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association (required).
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) may be required for certain clinical areas.
Note:
Additional, specialized certifications may be required or preferred based on unit.
