Position Summary

The Orlando Health Heart and Vascular Institute is seeking a vascular sonographer (RVT or RVS) to join our outpatient vascular surgery team. The ideal candidate will be dedicated in providing high-quality diagnostic imaging and compassionate patient care in a collaborative, patient-focused environment. Responsibilities Essential Functions

Demonstrates competency in routine noninvasive and/or invasive cardiology and/or vascular ultrasound diagnostics, and equipment operation and maintenance.

Requires in-depth conceptual and practical knowledge in own job discipline and basic knowledge of related job disciplines.

Solves complex problems.

Exercises judgement based on the analysis of multiple sources of information.

Recognizes normal and abnormal anatomy and physiology in conjunction with obtaining and documenting pertinent clinical and diagnostic information.

Works closely with the cardiologist to perform noninvasive and/or invasive cardiology and/or vascular diagnostic sonographic exams, and functions independently in the absence of the supervisor and/or manager.

Exercises professional judgment in performance of services and maintains a demeanor complimentary to quality care.

Delivers appropriate care while recognizing patient conditions and ensuring successful completion of procedures.

Complies with all state and federal regulations applicable to each modality.

Adheres to Orlando Health mission statements and commitment to excellence standards.

Assesses the patient’s physical condition and age specific needs.

Provides instructions that achieve patient cooperation and desired results.

Performs proper patient identification, acquires patient’s clinical history, and ensures information is accurately documented.

Positions patient, equipment, and related devices; manipulates technical factors to achieve high quality images for interpretation.

Assesses diagnostic images for technical quality, proper annotation, and patient identification, ensuring that all relative anatomy is demonstrated.

Comprehends and complies with Quality Control standards and participates in all QC tasks.

Administers medical aid as required for emergencies.

Applies standard precautions and PPE to prevent cross-contamination of contagious diseases.

Uses Orlando Health computer systems effectively and accurately.

Ensures safety of all customers and maintains accurate documentation, including verbal and telephone orders from physicians.

Communicates openly with all members of the healthcare team.

Participates in supervising student sonographers, training, orienting new sonographers, directing daily workflow, and supporting quality and safety initiatives.

Maintains regular, punctual attendance consistent with policy and standards.

Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.

Other Related Functions

Assist in transporting of patients.

Follows established standards of practice for image processing and interpretation.

Assists in clerical duties like printing reports, scanning documents, and scheduling of patients.

Maintains cleanliness and organization of work areas and equipment.

May be required to work at any Orlando Health facility and after-hours or call shifts as needed.

May assist with contrast administration and IV procedures when pertinent to the department.

Qualifications Education/Training

Graduate of an accredited school of sonography. Depending on assigned department, meets education/training as required under ARDMS and/or CCI guidelines.

Licensure/Certification

Maintains current BLS/HealthCare Provider certification.

Must maintain one of the following:

RDMS (fetal echocardiography) or RDCS or RCS/ACS/RCCS or RVT or RVS as applicable per ARDMS/CCI guidelines.

Experience

A minimum of one year of experience.

Able to perform routine echocardiology exams (2-D, M-Mode) and/or vascular sonography exams (2-D, M-Mode, Color Flow, Spectral Doppler, Carotid, Venous Doppler, Arterial Duplex).

Knowledge of equipment operation and maintenance.

Must demonstrate competency in performing at least FIVE of the following ECHO and/or Vascular exams: 3-D, Strain, Exercise or Dobutamine Stress Echocardiography, TAVR, Mitral Clip, Complex Valve, Watchman, Post Processing, Contrast Studies, Agitated Saline, TEE, and other listed procedures.
