Peer Specialist – HBA010 (Sat‑Sun 4 PM‑12 AM)

Position Summary Responsible for direct service with identified consumers, providing orientation and ongoing support in training, support activities, and maintaining program records. This position may involve supervised or unsupervised contact and conversational interaction with consumers while working in residences, day treatments, and habilitation facilities.
Essential Accountabilities
Coordinate evacuation and ensure guest‑safety in actual emergencies (e.g., fire drills). Ability to climb and descend stairs and assist others to do the same, including verbal and physical prompting.
Provide peer support to crisis‑residence guests, including program orientation, rules and regulations, and managing new‑environment routines.
Escort consumers to necessary services when appropriate.
Identify community resources.
Assist in mental‑health outreach efforts to target populations.
Participate in on‑site and off‑site activities with respite guests.
Attend staff meetings and other meetings as directed by supervisors; ability to travel to other sites.
Responsible for crisis intervention and incident‑reporting procedures.
Monitor and assist in planning daily activities and events.
Act as a role model for respite guests.
Assist/supervise food preparation and clean‑up at crisis residence.
Participate in training, in‑services, and support activities for peer specialists.
Assist with linen care/laundry and changing bedding after each guest departs.
Participate in OMH/WellLife Network approved orientations and training.
Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent.
OMH‑certified Peer Specialist or OASAS‑certified Peer Advocate.
Strong communication skills and experience with mental health and/or substance abuse issues.
Demonstrated ability to work with mental‑health consumers.
