As an Ophthalmic Scribe you will work alongside physicians, documenting into the patient’s chart and assisting physicians with minor in-office procedures.
Schedule Monday through Thursday 7:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.; Friday 7:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
What you will be doing
Bring patients to and from exam rooms
Perform detailed documentation of patient workups and OD/MD comments in the patient’s electronic medical record
Complete patient encounter form based on determined diagnosis
Apply drops to anesthetize, dilate, or medicate eyes
Provide chair-side physician assistance and administer treatment as allowed and ordered by the physician
Review care instructions with patients
Complete a detailed patient history including past medical history, family medical history and chief complaint
Check patient’s visual acuity (far, near, peripheral, depth perception, color)
Examine eyes for abnormalities
Perform tests and measurements (A-scans, B-scans, fundus photography, corneal topography, HRTII, pachymetry)
Measure intraocular pressure (glaucoma testing)
Read eyeglass prescriptions with automated lensometry
Prepare exam rooms for treatment
Maintain patient confidentiality following HIPAA regulations
Demonstrate basic knowledge of eye anatomy, diseases, symptoms, and ocular medications
Stay current with the latest technologies and medications and be able to answer general patient questions
What you know Required
High school diploma or GED equivalent
Valid driver’s license and ability to drive a motor vehicle
Efficient computer skills and ability to type 40+ words per minute
Desired
Experience working as a Medical Scribe
Electronic Medical Records (EMR) experience
Knowledge of medical terminology
Entry level; typically 0-3 years of experience
