Laboratory Technician II – Aviagen
Join Aviagen as a Laboratory Technician II to process and analyze samples collected from production sites with minimal supervision while ensuring that all programs and procedures are followed according to company guidelines. The role demands attention to detail, high quality work, and efficiency.
Qualifications
College degree and 0‑2 years of lab experience, OR high school diploma or equivalent with 1‑2 years of relevant work experience or coursework.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Maintain sufficient inventory of laboratory supplies.
Accurately process samples in a time‑efficient manner.
Follow laboratory work instructions.
Perform routine laboratory tests with little to no supervision.
Prepare media and solutions used within the laboratory.
Participate in research trials and proficiency testing under direct supervision.
Enter samples and results into the laboratory data management system.
Review completed testing and report results.
Be willing to work weekend rotations as necessary.
Follow company policy and meet established requirements regarding biosecurity, animal welfare, safety, ISO 17025 accreditation, and drugs and alcohol.
Maintain good laboratory hygiene.
Assist in monitoring quality of work and product within the laboratory.
Assist training of Laboratory Technician I’s.
Perform other duties as required by Laboratory Management.
Physical Requirements
Walk/stand for extended periods.
Move safely over uneven terrain.
Frequent lifting of objects up to 20 lbs.
Perform repetitive tasks requiring hand/wrist dexterity.
Pick up materials at ground level.
Apply 50 lbs. of force to push carts.
Perform tasks squat or knee positions.
Wear required PPE (safety glasses, gloves, shoes).
Exposed to airborne particles, dust, dander.
Handle chemicals such as detergents, disinfectants, and vaccines.
Work indoors year‑round, possibly outdoors.
Exposure to hot/cold temperatures and farm odors.
May be exposed to blood and other bodily fluids.
