Child Welfare Case Managers are responsible for participating in staff development opportunities and maintaining child welfare certification through ongoing training. They work cooperatively with our team of case managers and maintain relationships with supervisory staff, community resource providers, and families. They also complete case notes, prepare for and attend court activities, develop judicial reviews and assessments, make referrals, arrange placements, conduct home studies, and facilitate family contacts.
Position Responsibilities
Participates in staff development opportunities and maintains child welfare certification through ongoing training.
Works collaboratively as a cooperative member of the unit, backing up other team members and assisting on cases.
Maintains relationships with supervisory staff, emphasizing proper response and supervision guidance.
Maintains relationships with community resource providers, facilitating the referral process and ensuring continuity of care.
Establishes and maintains relationships with children and families, ensuring permanency and child safety.
Accurately completes case notes on a continual basis, entered into the required data system per policy.
Prepares for and attends all court activities; testifies regarding case status and permanency progress.
Develops and completes judicial reviews, assessments, medical reviews, reunification packets and termination reports on time.
Attends individual case staffings.
Conducts initial and ongoing child safety assessments.
Makes referrals for services as needed.
Arranges emergency placements and services for children at risk.
Conducts diligent searches for parents and family members.
Completes home studies as required.
Plans and facilitates visits between children in care and family members.
Conducts minimum monthly face‑to‑face contacts with family members.
Reviews progress toward case plan goals.
Supports foster and adoptive families.
Negotiates subsidy agreements with adoptive parents.
Completes required adoption paperwork and achieves adoption goals.
Education, Experience and Skills Bachelor’s degree in Social Work or related human services field and one year of relevant social services experience working with children and families.
This Position Requires The Following Credentials
Child Welfare Certification; required to participate in training and obtain certification.
Current Background Clearance Screening Letter.
Valid driver’s license and insurable by the agency’s insurance carrier if using a company automobile.
Skills to understand and evaluate risk factors for child abuse and neglect.
Proficient in Microsoft Office.
