Department: Exceptional Children Term of Employment: 10 months
General Responsibilities Pitt County Schools is looking for a full time Physical Therapist to serve students with identified needs. This staff person would provide the following:
develops, implements and coordinates a physical therapy program within the local educational agency (LEA);
provides screening, evaluation and intervention services for both pre-school and school age students;
interprets and reports evaluation findings and relays information to staff and families of pre-school and school age students;
analyze risk, problem solve effectively and demonstrate a high level of professional judgment when recommending and providing services for both pre-school and school age students;
makes environmental modifications and trains staff to manage physical needs of both pre-school and school age students;
provides direct and consultative services to include both pre-school and school age students;
communicates and consults with school staff, parents, administrators, physicians, community and other professionals for pre-school and school age students;
serves as a collaborative service provider on a multi-disciplinary team for both pre-school and school age students;
addresses equipment needs, works closely with DME providers and families, and writes letters of medical necessity to meet those equipment needs for school for pre-school and school age students;
collaborates with community based therapists and other healthcare providers for effective coordination of service for pre-school and school age students;
contributes to planning safe transportation for pre-school and school age students with a disability;
provides consultation regarding emergency evacuation of pre-school and school age students with a disability;
participates with improving school accessibility and planning environmental modification for pre-school and school age students;
procures, maintains and inventories equipment, materials and supplies needed for pre-school and school age students;
participates in staff meetings as requested;
applies principles of physical therapy and works within the North Carolina Physical Therapy Practice Act, Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and other legal mandates.
Suggested Training And Experience
Two years of experience (preferably in pediatric practice).
Participation in recent continuing education programs related to pediatrics or school based physical therapy.
Special Requirements
Graduation from an accredited program of physical therapy.
Certification to practice in North Carolina as evidenced by current licensure as a physical therapist by the North Carolina Board of Physical Therapy Examiners.
