Overview

Summary: Responsible for providing direct assistance to the surgeon during surgical procedures and plays a critical role in ensuring the success and safety of surgical interventions.

Responsibilities

Provide direct assistance to the surgeon during surgical procedures.

Assist in achieving and maintaining hemostasis by applying appropriate techniques and instruments.

Collaborate with the surgical team in preparing and handling surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies.

Communicate effectively with the surgical team, including the surgeon, nurses, anesthesiologists, and other team members.

Advocate for patient safety and well-being throughout the surgical process.

Maintain accurate and detailed documentation of the surgical procedure, including instrument counts, procedures performed, and any intraoperative events or complications.

Stay updated with advancements in surgical technology, techniques, and procedures.

Education High School Diploma or Equivalent required

Experience

Experience as a Surgical Technologist or in a related role 3-5 years required

Licenses and Credentials

Basic Life Support [BLS Certification] - Certified Surgical First Assistant [CFA] - National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) preferred

Certified Surgical Technologist [CST] - National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) preferred

Medical Technician [New Hampshire] - New Hampshire Board of Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

In-depth knowledge of surgical procedures, anatomy, and surgical techniques.

Proficiency in sterile technique, aseptic practices, and infection control protocols.

Excellent hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Ability to remain calm under pressure and handle complex surgical scenarios.

Understanding of patient advocacy and safety measures in the operating room.
