Overview
Under the general direction of the Chief Physician & Surgeon, Correctional Facility (CF), the Physician & Surgeon, CF (Internal Medicine/Family Practice [IM/FP]), provides medical care to patients in a correctional facility. The role involves medical assessments, treatment for assigned patients as appropriate and as authorized by the medical license, clinical consultation to midlevel providers and other staff, and instruction to nursing and other clinical staff on medical protocols. The Physician & Surgeon, CF (IM/FP) is assigned on-call duties. This is a limited-term position which may be extended or become permanent.
Responsibilities
Provide medical care to patients in a correctional facility, including medical assessments and treatment within the scope of the medical license.
Perform clinical consultations with midlevel providers and other staff; instruct nursing and clinical staff on medical protocols; uphold professional standards of care.
Participate in on-call duties as assigned.
Collaborate with the broader health care team and external partners as needed to support patient care and safety.
Minimum Qualifications
Possession of the legal requirements for the practice of medicine in California as determined by the Medical Board of California or the California Board of Osteopathic Examiners.
Possession of a valid internal medicine or family medicine Medical or Osteopathic Specialty Certificate issued by an American Medical Specialty Board or an American Osteopathic Specialty Board; or admissibility to an internal medicine or family medicine Specialty examination as evidenced by a written statement from the Secretary of the American Board of Family Medicine or the Secretary of the American Board of Internal Medicine.
