Job Overview Performs echocardiograms, two‑dimensional and M‑mode with color flow Doppler and Doppler echocardiography on adult and pediatric patients. Performs stress echocardiograms, pharmacological stress testing and assists with transesophageal echocardiograms. All performing of studies occurs under the direct supervision of an echocardiographic sonographer. Demonstrates the ability to assimilate data, perform calculations, and provides cardiac rhythm monitoring of patients. Performs procedures on patients ranging from infants to patients in later maturity.

Job Duties

Performs Echocardiograms – involves quality diagnostic scanning of patients in the non‑invasive echo area or patient room. The patient is positioned on the echo bed by the student and technician performing the procedure: 80% of the procedure time is spent on the scanning function.

The Echo Student will demonstrate the ability to assimilate data and perform calculations for interpretation with the assistance of the Echo Technician. The student will collect all the data for the echo study to be viewed for the interpreting physician. Studies will be transferred to the electronic storage/reading station for physician interpretation.

The Echo Student will assist the physician with the Transesophageal Echocardiogram – the student and technician must be present to operate the Echo machine and collect all pertinent data.

Demonstrates the ability to effectively perform treadmill studies under the supervision of the Technician.

Participates on departmental and/or hospital performance improvement teams as appropriate.

Required Certifications / Licenses / Education

High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED).

Must be enrolled in the final semester of an accredited school for medical sonographers.
