Overview
Classification Title: Postdoctoral Associate in Biogeochemistry Classification Minimum Requirements: Performs or supervises research on assigned projects. Coordinates project activities and reports on progress. Writes articles for publication. Prepares research and presents to applicable parties as needed. Compiles data for funding proposals. Trains and mentors subordinate research associates and undergraduate students. Assists with the writing of funding proposals. The University of Florida's Department of Geological Sciences invites applications for a highly motivated, results-oriented postdoctoral researcher to join an interdisciplinary research team investigating biogeochemical processes across various water environments, including surface water, groundwater, and coastal seawater. This role involves a mix of field, laboratory, and experimental work. The successful candidate will conduct field sampling, perform follow-up aquatic chemistry analyses, and integrate microfluidic experiments that simulate biogeochemical processes. The research will also involve handling microbial cells (in vitro) and conducting gene-level analyses (e.g., PCR and sequencing). Prior experience with microfluidics or microbiology is not required, though it will be highly regarded. Perform hydrogeochemical field sampling and subsequent laboratory processing. Manage and maintain aquatic chemistry and microfluidics laboratories. Design and conduct microfluidic experiments to investigate biogeochemical processes. Publish research in peer‑reviewed journals. Contribute to proposal development and grant applications. Mentor and train students in laboratory techniques and analyses. Qualifications
Required Qualifications: Ph.D. in biogeochemistry, hydrochemistry, environmental science/engineering, or a related field by start date. A strong background in aquatic chemistry and biogeochemistry. Proficiency with analytical instrumentation, including GC, IC, fluorescence spectroscopy, and isotope analyzers for water and carbon. Data analysis and programming skills. Preferred Qualifications: Experience with microfluidic and lab-on-a-chip system development and applications. Experience with in vitro cell handling in microsystems.
