Overview
Cardiac Critical Care unit (CVICU) offering surgical and medical cardiovascular care. Unit provides postoperative care for CABG, valve replacement/repair, Impella, IABP management, thoracic aortic aneurysms, and other cardiovascular support cases. Patient ratio: RN 1:2. Responsibilities
Provide bedside nursing care for critically ill cardiac patients in CVICU, including post-operative management and circulatory support. Monitor hemodynamics, titrate vasoactive and antiarrhythmic medications, and interpret cardiac waveforms. Assist with line management and use of circulatory support devices (ISBP, Impella, LVAD, ECMO) as appropriate per protocol. Perform post-cardiac assessments and coordinate care within the multidisciplinary team. Support unit operations including CNA duties (ADLs, vital signs, glucose monitoring), reception/phone coverage, and coordination with charge nurses. Operate and troubleshoot critical care equipment (EPIC EMR preferred, Alaris IV pumps, Philips monitors, CRRT equipment). Provide or coordinate phlebotomy and 24/7 RT/Intensivist coverage in the CVICU as needed. Qualifications
Minimum 1 year CVICU experience. BLS, ACLS, NIHSS required. CCRN preferred. EPIC experience preferred; ability to care for patients requiring circulatory support and hemodynamic monitoring. Unit/Facility Details
Location: 1 Medical Center Blvd, Winston-Salem, NC 27157 Facility: 885 licensed beds; Level 1 Trauma Designation; Teaching Hospital (Academic Medical Center); Chest Pain Center; Stroke Center. Unit Information: 22 Bed ICU; CT/Chest Pain and Stroke centers; CVICU with high acuity care. Scheduling and Expectations
Weekend rotation: Nurses every other weekend Holiday expectations: Travelers will work ~75% of holidays RTO approval: NM (not mandatory), scheduling cycle every 6 weeks Shift times: 0630-1900 and 1830-0700 Orientation: Facility and unit orientation (NEO: 1 Week; department-focused time noted) Additional Notes
