Barnes-Jewish Hospital
at Washington University Medical Center is the largest hospital in Missouri and is ranked as one of the nation's top hospitals by U.S. News & World Report. Barnes-Jewish Hospital's staff is composed of full-time academic faculty and community physicians of Washington University School of Medicine, supported by a house staff of residents, interns, fellows and other medical professionals. Facilities Engineering maintains 6 million square feet of facilities dedicated to clinical and academic functions. Facilities Engineering is comprised of 150 professionals, including engineers, MEP mechanics, building finishes and support staff. The Facilities and Engineering department at Barnes Jewish Hospital is a progressive, innovative department which stresses employee involvement, continued education/training and opportunities for advancement. Consistent customer and staff satisfaction surveys reflect a continuous rating in the upper 90% and staff responses to "intent to continue employment at BJH" rating in the upper 90%.
Role Purpose
Responsible for the operation, maintenance, renovation, and repair of the boiler systems by providing oversight and maintenance on stationary engines, boilers, and other mechanical equipment, that provide utilities for buildings. Conducts plant operations, skilled maintenance, repair, adjustments, and fabrication/installation work and maintains a clean, safe, well maintained boiler room and machine room.
Responsibilities
Notifies appropriate leadership in the event of equipment malfunction, boiler casualty, or any other unforeseen event that negatively impact the operation of the boiler plant or the hospital steam system.
Operates engines, boilers, and auxiliary equipment. Reads gauges, meters, and charts to track boiler operations. Monitors boiler water, chemical, and fuel levels. Activates valve to change the amount of water, air, and fuel in the boilers.
Performs routine maintenance to include lubricating moving parts, replacing filters, and removing soot and corrosion. Tests and chemically treats hydronic systems to prevent corrosion and harmful deposits. Handles replacement of defective valves, gaskets, or bearings or performs a complete overhaul of defected parts when needed.
Ensures equipment operates safely and within established limits by performing regular restarts of equipment while monitoring meters, gauges, and computerized controls. Adheres to city mechanical ordinances for high pressure steam boilers and maintains required supervision when in operation.
Keeps detailed records of relevant events and facts concerning operations and maintenance in an equipment log. Records steam pressure, temperature, water level, power output, and fuel consumption.
Minimum Requirements
Education : High School Diploma or GED
Licenses & Certifications : STL Stationary Engineer
Experience : 5-10 years
