Provides evaluation of and care for respiratory therapy patients under the direct supervision of a licensed registered or certified respiratory therapist.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

Must possess current licensure as required by the state board where services will be provided: WV:

Respiratory student temporary permit through the West Virginia Board of Respiratory Care

Obtain certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire date.

CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The statements described here are intended to describe the general nature of work being performed by people assigned to this position. Set up and maintain low flow oxygen devices of 6 LPM or less, including nasal cannula or a simple mask.

Set up and maintain aerosol devices with Fi02 of equal to or less than 50%.

Deliver medications through a spontaneous small volume nebulizer.

Deliver medication via Metered Dose Inhaler (MDI) or dry powder inhaler.

Measure peak flow, simple spirometry, and pulse oximetry.

Administer airway clearance devices or techniques such as therapy vest, chest physiotherapy, incentive spirometry, suctioning via artificial airway, and positive expiratory pressure therapies.

Communicate appropriately and effectively with other members of the healthcare team regarding all aspects of patient care.

Assist with patient and family/caregiver education along with other members of the healthcare team.

Ability to be on feet/walking extended periods of time.
