Overview
Role: TJJD - Psychologist II-III for Forensic Services - * * * $5,000 Recruitment/Retention Bonus * * * (GNS) - 49093 at Texas Juvenile Justice Department.
Responsibilities
Provides clinical supervisory activities, including group monitoring as directed by the Senior Psychologist for Forensic Services.
Conducts trauma-informed psychological evaluations, suicide risk assessments and suicide monitoring; updates MH/MI/Med, Administrative, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) evaluation, Behavior Management Plans, and other clinical evaluations that incorporate specific recommendations regarding transition planning, risk management, and appropriate core and behavioral interventions.
Identifies when youth should be placed on or removed from suicide alert; determines supervision requirements to ensure youth safety.
Provides direct trauma-informed therapeutic services, including individual, group, psychoeducational, and MDT interviews of youth.
Provides specialized consultation to MDT members, including juvenile correctional officers, case managers, and education staff on trauma-informed assessments, treatment, adaptations and modifications, intervention, Behavior Management Plans, clinical and behavioral management of youth with special needs.
Contributes to the development, maintenance, and delivery of in-service training for facility staff (e.g., Stage Assessment, suicide prevention training, and other specialized training).
Documents direct services provided.
Performs related duties as assigned by the supervisor and complies with agency safety policies; reports safety hazards as required.
May work in excess of 40 hours per week, with different shift patterns, on-call duties, and travel occasionally.
Career Path
Psychologist I: Performs complex (journey-level) work under general supervision with moderate latitude for initiative and independent judgment.
Psychologist II: Performs advanced and/or managerial (senior-level) work under limited supervision with considerable latitude for initiative and independent judgment.
Career path includes potential promotion to Psychologist II after two years of licensed psychologist experience, subject to performance criteria per agency policy (PRS.15.07).
