Overview As a member of the Preventive Maintenance team, you will maintain the comfort, efficiency, and operational integrity of Auburn’s heating, ventilation, air‑conditioning, and refrigeration (HVACR) systems. Your work supports faculty, staff, and students by ensuring reliable indoor climate control.

Essential Functions Level I

Perform routine repairs and preventive maintenance on HVACR equipment: air handling units, chillers, heat pumps, exhaust fans, fan coil units, variable‑air–volume boxes, motors, pumps, and associated controls.

Execute seasonal transitions of systems between heating and cooling.

Provide basic repairs of HVACR components and assist in major component replacement under supervision.

Support on‑call status during scheduled periods, remaining work‑ready and able to return to the site within 45 minutes.

Level II

Install, replace, or repair a broad range of HVACR equipment—including refrigeration units, electric motors, heating units, boilers, burners, economizers, humidifiers, and packaged units.

Plan, schedule, and execute major HVACR repair projects; lead emergency repair efforts.

Inspect, troubleshoot, and diagnose HVACR systems and components to evaluate operating status and recommend corrective action.

Use the Facilities Management AIM work‑order system to prioritize tasks and meet client needs.

Maintain on‑call readiness, returning to the worksite within 45 minutes when called.

Minimum Qualifications Level I

High school diploma or equivalent.

Minimum 2 years of HVACR technician experience.

Level II

Some college or vocational/associate degree in HVACR or related field.

Minimum 5 years of HVACR technician experience.

Education Substitution (Level II)

When lacking the required formal education, relevant work experience can substitute at a rate of two years of experience per year of required education.

Minimum Skills, License & Certifications Level I

Proficiency in HVACR theory and operations.

Basic electrical knowledge – single‑phase, three‑phase power and wire sizing.

Generator operation, safety, and basic HVACR maintenance.

Knowledge of industry safety procedures.

Ability to perform preventative maintenance and troubleshoot HVACR systems.

Wire circuits, read blueprints, and interpret mechanical drawings.

Valid driver’s license.

Universal refrigerant card or ability to obtain within 90 days.

Level II

Journeyman expertise in complex HVACR installation, maintenance, and repair.

Proficiency in troubleshooting, diagnostics, and project management for HVACR systems.

Advanced knowledge of control systems, digital and pneumatic controls.

Experience with air‑water balance and building automatic systems (e.g., Metasys).

Ability to supervise and communicate clearly with subordinates.

Valid driver’s license and universal refrigerant card.

NATE HVAC Support Technician Certification or equivalent.

Salary & Work Hours Hourly rate: $19.00 – $34.55 Shifts: 3:30 PM – 12:00 AM (2nd shift) Pay premium: 10% shift differential for work between 3:00 PM and 7:00 AM.
