Job Summary The Mechanical Engineer II is responsible for designing, developing, analyzing, and supporting AC and DC air‑cooled and oil‑cooled generators within the design‑engineering department. Responsibilities include proposal development, design, testing, and production support.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Design individual parts and assemblies of rotating machines to meet customer requirements and performance targets.
Develop CAD 3‑D models and 2‑D drawings, conduct necessary analyses (tolerance stack‑up, bearing load/pre‑load calculations, etc.).
Ensure compliance with SAFRAN and industry standards, including GD&T and design for manufacturing.
Act as a peer reviewer and support technical reviews across design, manufacturing, and test.
Assist in technical proposals, cost estimates, test procedures, process qualification, status and technical reports.
Initiate problem‑solving actions for ongoing products or new product designs.
Communicate progress and risks transparently to peers and management.
Support testing of new and legacy products with guidance from a lead engineer.
Adhere to safe work practices and contribute to the health, safety, and environmental culture.
Qualifications & Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
Minimum four (4) years of mechanical engineering experience in new product design and manufacturing.
Experience with rotating machine design (motors, generators). Knowledge of design principles, blueprint interpretation, and GD&T.
Proficiency in CAD 3‑D modeling and 2‑D drawing (CATIA preferred).
Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and interpersonal skills.
Strong organizational, administrative, and reporting abilities.
Experience with bearing system design, wound components, rotor dynamics, oil and air cooling.
Familiarity with DO160, ARP4754A, and ARP4761.
Physical Demands & Work Environment Work primarily in office and testing/production floor areas; may require wearing PPE.
Physical demands: stand, walk, sit; lift and move objects up to 30 lb; use hands and fingers; reach with hands and arms; observe with naked eye or instruments.
Travel Occasional travel within the U.S. and abroad; evening/night hours may be required; extra hours during business peaks.
