Virtual Design and Construction (VDC) Coordinator
Position Summary:
A VDC (Virtual Design and Construction) Coordinator uses digital models and technology to plan, manage, and visualize construction projects, collaborating with project managers, architects, and engineers. Key responsibilities include managing BIM (Building Information Modeling) processes, coordinating digital design logistics, creating and analyzing 3D models, identifying and resolving project clashes, and using software like Revit and Navisworks to ensure project objectives are met.
Key Responsibilities
Project Visualization: Manage and utilize computer models to create detailed visualizations of construction projects.
BIM and Technology Implementation: Oversee the implementation and application of Building Information Modeling (BIM) and other VDC technologies on construction projects.
Set up all BIM coordinated projects both locally and on project collaboration sites.
Set up and attend Kickoff meetings with Project Managers & Superintendents.
Review Plans and Specs with field for project specific material.
Update Coordination design model throughout project lifespan.
Clash Detection: Identify and resolve design and construction conflicts (clashes) by analyzing models, ensuring a cohesive and accurate project plan.
Documentation: Review design drawings, submittals, and RFIs (Requests for Information) to ensure project alignment and accuracy.
Collect submittal info for VDC Projects and save in project folder.
Assist in preplanning efforts between VDC Lead and field.
Manage, Maintain, Research and Develop VDC Tools/Software & Database.
Attend Multi-Trade/GC Coordination Meetings.
Relay meeting information to VDC Techs and update reports to VDC Lead and GC/ field.
Upload Navis models and BIM model to GC coordination site.
Attend VDC/Field Coordination Meetings.
Review plans with field for important details & Prefab coordination items.
Provide sign‑off sheets for all BIM coordinated projects for GC/ field use.
Assist on BIM coordinated projects as workload demands.
2D/3D Trimble Projects/Points.
Work with Prefab Department & Field on improving workflow.
Jobsite visits as needed.
Required Skills and Qualifications
Software Proficiency: Expertise in BIM and CAD software, such as Autodesk Revit and Navisworks.
Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of VDC methodologies, construction processes, and the latest technological approaches in the field.
Collaboration: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with diverse project teams.
Problem‑Solving: Ability to identify and resolve technical issues, particularly design and construction clashes.
Attention to Detail: Meticulous attention to detail to ensure accuracy in models and project plans.
Education: A degree in fields related to construction management or construction design is preferred.
