Job Summary The Athletic Trainer provides comprehensive care to athletes, including injury prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation. The role includes working with sports medicine physicians, orthopedic surgeons, and physical therapists to develop treatment plans, assist in surgical procedures, and provide post-operative care. The Athletic Trainer also supports outreach programs and patient education.
Responsibilities
Evaluates and assesses injuries, developing treatment and rehabilitation plans for athletes
May assist in the operating room, including patient positioning, tissue retraction, and wound closure
Applies and removes casts, splints, and durable medical equipment (DME) as directed
Provides patient education on injury prevention, post-operative care, and rehabilitation exercises
Documents patient care activities, assessments, and treatment plans accurately in the EMR
Communicates effectively with physicians, coaches, and patients regarding treatment plans and progress
Participates in community outreach programs, providing injury prevention education and screenings
Ensures compliance with infection control protocols and patient safety standards
Assists with diagnostic procedures, including MRIs, CT scans, and EMG studies as directed
Performs other duties as assigned to support clinical operations and patient care
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Expectations
Comprehensive knowledge of athletic training techniques and orthopedic rehabilitation
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work independently and in a multidisciplinary team setting
Proficiency in EMR systems and Microsoft Office Suite
Demonstrates professionalism, integrity, and a commitment to patient-centered care
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform extended periods of standing, walking, and physical activity
Qualifications Education
Bachelor’s Degree in Athletic Training, Exercise Science, or related field required
Master’s Degree in Athletic Training or Healthcare-related field preferred
Licenses/Certifications
Current State license as an Athletic Trainer required
National Athletic Trainers' Association Board of Certification (NATA/BOC) required
Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification required
Experience
Minimum of one (1) year of experience in a clinical, orthopedic, or sports medicine setting preferred
Experience in a surgical or operating room setting preferred
