Overview Colorado Eye Center is seeking an experienced Optician for our Boulder, CO office. The ideal candidate is American Board of Opticianry certified with 1-2 years of retail optician experience. Responsibilities Dispense and fit spectacles, contact lenses, and other optical aides, working from printed or computerized prescriptions. Advise patients on various types of lenses and spectacle frames, including advice on style, weight, and color. Instruct patients on how to wear and care for their spectacles and contacts. Provide patient education regarding lens materials, products, and designs. Perform prescription analysis such as interpreting and transposing. Provide recommendations to patients regarding proper eyeglass frame selection. Determine ideal recommendations by incorporating frame design, lens materials, and optics with patient’s prescription and lifestyle considerations. Perform eyeglass frame adjustments and repairs, ensuring proper alignment, comfortable fit, and functional vision. Perform accurate measurements of lens power, pupillary distance, multifocal segment height, lens base curve, vertex distance, and prism power. Order custom lens products from identified vendors and monitor the process to ensure on-time delivery. Post charges, patient and insurance claim payments, and bill insurance when needed. Order contact lenses and/or trials. Verify lens prescriptions of ordered lenses and check for accuracy. Assist in the return of authorized merchandise to manufacturers. Design, arrange and maintain product displays. Monitor product inventory levels. Maintain inventory of office supplies and other materials necessary to properly run the department. Maintain instruments and hand tools used. Participate in continuing education opportunities and training. Troubleshoot to determine the cause of issues with new eyeglasses. Follow clinical workflow to ensure a clean hand-off from the clinic to dispensary. Work in cooperation with other dispensary associates to meet and exceed daily and monthly sales goals. Execute duties of position in a professional and courteous manner. Handle sensitive information in a confidential manner. Perform other tasks and duties as assigned. Qualifications High School diploma or equivalent required. Certification by American Board of Opticianry preferred. One to two years of retail optician experience required. Strong organizational and problem-solving skills. Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate clearly and effectively with patients, staff, managers, and doctors. Understanding of the anatomy of the eye as well as normal, abnormal vision, and perception. Basic computer literacy required. Excellent math skills that allow for precise work related to opticianry and sales (basic algebraic equations and monetary calculations).
