The purpose of the Food & Nutrition Specialist position is to provide support for Hope Express, Medically Tailored Meals, Fresh Choice Food Program and all other food/nutrition initiatives. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Prepare, cook, and serve meals and snacks for Hope Express and Medically Tailored Meals Conduct street outreach services Coordinate intake and program eligibility for food & nutrition programs Maintain gifts-in-kind donation records Assist in the coordination of the Fresh Choice Food Program Maintain inventory of food products, equipment and supplies Operate and maintain the mobile kitchen trailer and assigned vehicle Serve on the Emergency Disaster Services (EDS) team Coordinate assigned volunteers Participate in weekly case conference meetings Participate in program and agency trainings as assigned Maintain accurate participant records in various information management systems; and generate reports as requested Maintain and execute confidential information according to HIPAA standards Maintain a highly detailed and organized filing system Ensure intake and care procedures utilize harm reduction and trauma informed care principles Check and respond to emails and voicemails on a regular basis Adhere to confidentiality standards Other duties as assigned Knowledge, Skills, Abilities And Other Qualifications
Ability to speak and write the English language at a high and professional level High degree of confidentiality Able to endorse and promote The Salvation Army’s mission Minimum two (2) years of food service, social service/work and/or related experience preferred Computer literate, in Windows environment (Microsoft Office), Word, Excel and Outlook preferred Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal Excellent and professional telephone etiquette and presence Excellent organizational skills Strong ability to utilize a high level of time management and handling multiple tasks CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
High school diploma Must possess ServSafe Food Handler certification Must possess a valid California Class C Driver License, and ability to drive a Salvation Army vehicle Must be 21 years or older Authorize The Salvation Army to add name to the CA DMV Pull Notice Program Complete The Salvation Army vehicle course training Must be able to successfully pass a criminal background check to include a DOJ Livescan Fingerprint check Physical Requirements
Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or sometimes continuous basis Ability to grasp, push, and/or pull objects Ability to reach overhead Ability to operate telephone Ability to lift up to 50-70 lbs. Ability to operate a computer Ability to process written, visual, and/or verbal information Ability to operate basic office equipment and tools PC, Fax Machine, Telephone, Calculator, Copier, Printer Qualified individuals must be able to perform the essential duties of the position with or without accommodation.
