Overview
Research Technician role at Texas A&M AgriLife Research. This is a full-time position located in McGregor, Texas. The center farms approximately 1,500 acres of corn, sorghum sudangrass, wheat, and oats for animal feed and manages approximately 4,800 acres for grazing. Under direction, the role will implement and coordinate farming and pasture preparation, planting, maintenance, and harvesting duties to meet the center's management goals and research objectives. Responsibilities
Oversee farming operations, including field preparation (plowing/discing, cultivating), planting of grain and hay fields, weed and pest control (herbicide and pesticide application), and harvesting (cutting, swathing, baling, hauling hay). Assist with pasture management, including bushhogging, brush clearing, application of herbicides/pesticides and fertilizers to ensure optimum forage production and healthy pastures. Operate heavy equipment (tractor, plow, disc, cultivator, planter, swather, hay rake, baler, bushhog, skid steer and attachments, augers, grain truck). Perform maintenance on equipment and facilities to ensure optimal working conditions. Assist with implementing management and research protocols, including day-to-day care of animals in a research setting and infrastructure maintenance (fences, plumbing, welding). Maintain training requirements for compliance. Performs other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience. Three years of experience in related fields of work. Current pesticide and/or herbicide applicator license, or ability to obtain within the first year of employment. Knowledge of and experience using farming equipment. Ability to communicate effectively. Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others. Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor of Animal Science, Agronomy, Rangeland Ecology, or related field. Five years of experience in related fields of work. Other Requirements
Ability to lift moderately heavy objects. Ability to exert heavy force. Work beyond normal business hours and/or weekends. What You Need To Know
