Salary: $60,000 - $68,000 per year.
Hours per week: 40.
Job type: Full-time Exempt, on site with travel between properties.
Location Haydenville, Williamsburg, MA and other Central and Valley properties as needed.
What You’ll Do As a Stewardship Manager, you’ll be responsible for identifying, planning, and executing property‑specific stewardship activities in the Central and Valley Region, focusing mainly on the expanding portfolio in the Connecticut River Valley. Your role includes hands‑on leadership of day‑to‑day property operations, maintenance, monitoring, enforcement, and collaboration with internal and external teams. You’ll coordinate capital and special projects, supervise staff and volunteers, and report to the Regional Director of Stewardship and Community Outreach.
Responsibilities
Identify day‑to‑day maintenance requirements; prioritize, schedule, and carry out maintenance and project‑based activities.
Hire, supervise, and train Steward positions, seasonal staff and volunteers.
Collaborate with resource teams on projects such as invasive species control, trail restoration, building improvements, and landscape design.
Coordinate with contractors, vendors, and regionally located staff to support establishment of a regional headquarters in Haydenville.
Identify and procure contractors, facilitate access and perform oversight associated with capital and special project initiatives.
Coordinate and manage relationships with property‑based contractors and lessees, including plowing contractors and farmers.
Lead staff and volunteer workdays associated with property‑based initiatives.
Collaborate with centralized resource teams to conduct resource baseline assessments and work order creation.
Plan and perform day‑to‑day maintenance, stewardship, and conservation of properties and general maintenance of buildings and structures.
Implement seasonal maintenance programs for groundskeeping and landscaping. Conduct snow removal for office buildings and prioritized parking areas in winter.
Support visitor experience and safety through property patrols, monitoring, proper wayfinding, and clean and welcoming facilities.
Use and maintain vehicles, machinery, tools and equipment to the highest safety standards.
Support special events and other significant programs as needed.
Requirements
5-8 years of relevant work experience, including at least 3-5 years in a supervisory role.
An associate’s degree or vocation/technical school graduate.
Proven ability to hire, manage, and inspire staff and volunteers.
Skilled at prioritizing, planning, and executing multiple projects while meeting deadlines and maintaining high standards.
Experience managing contractors and overseeing project work on properties, ensuring quality, safety, and alignment with organizational standards.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and strong recordkeeping abilities.
Flexible, positive, and mission‑driven, with a strong commitment to conservation and the goals of The Trustees.
Dedicated to creating and maintaining a culture of safety across all operations.

Experience building and managing budgets effectively.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Studies, Horticulture, Landscape Maintenance, Property Management, Cultural/Historic Landscapes, or related field.
Wilderness First Aid certification or willingness to acquire.
MA Hoisting 2A License.
Core Pesticide Applicator.
MCA/MCH/MCLP.
First Aid/CPR.
OSHA 10.
Electrical Hazard Awareness Program.
Comfortable with safe use and maintenance of landscaping equipment (chainsaws, trimmers, brush cutters, mowers, tractors, etc.); basic carpentry, painting, and building maintenance skills.
Experience with cultural or historic landscapes and formal landscape maintenance.
Eligibility Criteria
Current authorization to work in the United States.
Valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record.
Requires DOT medical card clearance for driving vehicles over 10k lbs.
A satisfactory criminal background (CORI) check.
Must be able to lift, push and pull objects up to 50 lbs.
Must be able to work in variable weather conditions.
