Overview

As a Solar Field Technician at QE Solar, you provide ongoing field services support to solar, battery storage (BESS), and other renewable energy systems on a continual/on-demand basis to optimize equipment performance, troubleshoot/resolve issues, support emergency repairs, and provide ongoing O&M compliance support. You assist with routine site inspections, maintenance projects, equipment and system testing, and project compliance. Field Service Technicians participate in field support, training, and project safety orientations/classes to develop skills in PV array, inverter, medium voltage, BESS and other solar services. Operations Leads, Solar Engineers and other management provide regular coaching and training and will qualify technicians for field operations.

Responsibilities

Diagnose and repair system failures at existing solar sites, identify and correct potential issues that may impact site performance, assist and support field teams with real-time solutions, and perform regular preventative maintenance on solar, BESS, and related equipment. Support field teams and clients via oversight/support of warranty matters regarding equipment and systems for use or replacement. Install, remove, troubleshoot, and maintain solar, BESS and related electrical equipment.

Maintain a safe, event-free work environment through strict adherence to company and client protocols, safety procedures and regulations. Ensure compliance with all safety requirements and safe practices (e.g. lock-out/tag-out, JHA completion, LDL testing, and company safety policies and procedures).

Prepare service tickets and reports for site visits, emergency repairs, equipment modifications and investigations. Provide written and oral reports in a timely and complete fashion.

Communicate with technical leads, project leads/managers, and third-party sub-contractors to ensure timely resolution of required activities; support recommended performance improvements and address site safety and compliance concerns; perform other responsibilities as directed by management.

Qualifications

Education: High School or Technical School Degree, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Veterans or military experienced candidates are strongly encouraged to apply.

Experience: 0-2+ years of specialist, technical experience with solar projects, BESS, or other renewable systems; experience with data acquisition systems.

Experience Preferred: Experience with 600V-1500V systems; strong knowledge of NEC, IEEE and NFPA-70E; proficiency with technology and computing platforms; C&I/Utility Scale solar work experience; experience with operations of solar sites and/or project maintenance and compliance.

Specialized or Technical Knowledge / Licenses & Certifications: Inverter and/or BESS manufacturers’ certifications (e.g., SunGrow, Power Electronics, Solectria, BYD); thermography certification (Level 1); IT/networking skills (RS485, Modbus, TCP/IP); NABCEP PV Installer Certification; OSHA 10/30; NFPA 70E; CPR/First Aid. Must possess a valid driver’s license.

Physical Requirements: Able to lift 25/50/80 pounds regularly; move safely over uneven terrain; sit or drive for prolonged periods; climb ladders while carrying 50 pounds; work in extreme weather.

Travel: Extensive regional travel and occasional national travel to meet client field operation needs.
