Responsibilities

Support permitting and reclamation programs statewide, evaluating and recommending action on mine reclamation conceptual plans, annual reports, notices of disturbance, as‑built reclamation reports, dredge and fill permit applications, environmental resource permit applications, compliance/enforcement issues and other environmental and mine documents.

Perform field evaluations under all weather conditions and traverse rough terrain, inspecting mining, permitting, reclamation activities, compliance, enforcement and recommending solutions to problems.

Evaluate proposed wetlands disturbances caused by mining and construction activities.

Investigate and evaluate complaints related to pollution sources and initiate appropriate action.

Accurately enter required data and system information into agency databases and Oculus.

Coordinate within the department and with state, federal agencies and interested groups concerning reclamation and mine permitting matters.

Represent the Department in meetings and forums with other agencies, the legislature and the public.

Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of applicable rules, regulations, policies, procedures, reclamation and restoration technology, and native Florida ecosystems.

Familiarize with Florida wetland plants, hydric soils and hydrologic indicators to identify wetlands.

Provide periodic plans of action and status reports to management, staff and external stakeholders.

Participate in training activities as required.

Perform related work as directed by supervisor.

Basic knowledge of biological functions related to Florida ecosystems.

Travel frequently for field inspections throughout Florida, including extended work hours.

Endure physically demanding field inspections, traversing difficult upland/wetland terrain.

Minimum Qualifications

At least four years of verifiable related experience. Post‑secondary degrees may substitute experience on a year‑for‑year basis.

Successful completion of a background and fingerprint check, as required by Florida Statutes and DEP Directive 422.

Valid driver’s license.

Overnight travel required.

Position of Special Trust Requirement This position is designated as a Position of Special Trust in accordance with DEP Directive 422 and requires successful background screening.
