As a registered nurse, you are expected to consistently deliver the best in care and customer service and demonstrate respect, dignity, kindness and empathy in each encounter with our patients, their families, visitors, and with each other. As part of the health care team, RNs assume primary accountability for nursing coordination and provision of individualized care for patients of all ages. The registered nurse also utilizes delegation and critical thinking skills to provide quality service through a team oriented, collaborative approach to patient care.
Responsibilities
Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care in order to achieve optimum patient outcomes for patients of all ages.
Age specific admission and ongoing assessments completed, documented and used to develop a plan of care.
Collaborate with members of the health care team/patient/family to develop, implement, and evaluate an age-specific interdisciplinary plan of care and revise plan according to changes in patient status.
Administer and document treatments and medications accurately using automated computer systems, including electronic medical records.
Identify patient/family educational needs in a timely manner, incorporate into the plan of care, implement and document appropriately.
Contribute to Carilion Clinic’s performance improvement activities.
Consistently demonstrate the role of patient advocate, protector of patient rights, and provider of psychological/social/cultural support.
Apply knowledge of growth and development to appropriately care for patients served.
Perform within clinical, leadership, and/or education pathways to support evidence‑based quality patient care service and performance improvement.
Exhibit clinical expertise in rapidly changing circumstances.
Plan strategies to reduce length of stay, turnaround time, resource consumption and improve patient outcomes.
Foster a role model for clinical practice to coworker, students, and physicians; manage resources, establish priorities, and modify environment to meet patient care needs.
Complete manager/director predetermined projects within specified time frame and according to pre‑established guidelines.
Use problem‑solving methods to facilitate resolution to patient and personnel situations in the work area.
Take an active role in the orientation of new employees.
Provide feedback to staff using appropriate communication and documentation.
Participate in unit, hospital, and/or system activities to facilitate staff participation/input in decision making.
Assist with providing education activities for unit/department.
What We Require Education:
Graduate of a school of professional nursing of an accredited college or graduate of an approved program eligible to sit for the VA licensure exam.
Licensure/Certification:
Currently licensed as Registered Nurse in Virginia or eligible to obtain Virginia RN licensure.
Life Support:
AHA BLS‑HCP required. May be required to obtain/maintain BLS, ACLS, PALS, NRP based on specific work unit.
Other:
Computer skills required for electronic medical record (EPIC).
