Overview
Pipefitter III for Norfolk, VA, to support maritime ship repair and modernization projects. The candidate will possess advanced proficiency in pipefitting within a shipyard or marine industrial environment, demonstrating the ability to lay out, fabricate, install, and test complex piping systems in accordance with MILSPEC, NAVSEA standards, and technical drawings. Responsibilities
Interpret and apply detailed technical drawings, MILSPECs, NAVSEA standards, and Work Instructions (WIs) to perform piping system installations and repairs. Lay out, fabricate, and install piping and tubing for various systems (fluid, drain, fuel, hydraulic, air, etc.). Set up, align, and operate a wide range of portable tools and hand tools used in shipboard pipefitting. Plan and execute pipe bending operations, including layout and cutting of materials to required dimensions. Machine pipe ends to achieve proper joint design and fit-up based on specifications. Fabricate and install fixtures, jigs, targets, and supports to ensure alignment during welding operations. Perform tack welding, brazing (qualified in multiple processes), and other joining techniques as needed. Flush, clean, and pressure test piping systems and components following Technical Work Documents (TWD) and Work Instructions. Install and modify piping systems per TEMPALT, SHIPALT, and ORDALT directives and applicable engineering instructions. Conduct systems troubleshooting to diagnose faults and recommend cost-effective repairs solutions. Perform and verify mechanical alignments of piping systems and equipment. Cut, shape, bend, align, and mount piping and associated fittings/components onboard ships. Prefabricate assemblies in a shop environment to facilitate efficient onboard installation. Follow all safety protocols and ensure work is performed to the highest quality standards. Support other production or maintenance tasks as assigned to meet project goals. Effectively communicate verbally and electronically with customers and supervisors utilizing MS Office products. Working Conditions
Exposure to open-air environments, including noisy, hot, and cold conditions. Required to visit project sites aboard ships and rigs, both onshore and offshore. Must wear various types of personal protective equipment (PPE), such as hearing, eye, head, and hand protection, as required. Site visits may involve standing on a variety of surfaces and angles, bending, crouching, and climbing over obstructions such as scaffolding, ladders, and internal barge or boat structural components. Exposure to sound levels exceeding 100 decibels. Must possess sufficient visual acuity, peripheral vision, depth perception, and night vision to inspect maritime components and systems, identify defects or irregularities, and safely operate tools and equipment. May work in confined spaces with limited ventilation. Requires prolonged periods of sedentary work, including sitting and/or standing. May be required to operate machinery, power tools, and/or heavy equipment. Frequent exposure to extreme weather conditions, including high heat and cold. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs, or more, climb ladders, and work in confined or elevated areas. Qualifications
7 or more years of maritime or shipyard pipefitting experience required. Familiarity with NAVSEA Standard Items, MILSPECs, and shipyard work instructions. Strong understanding of shipboard mechanical systems and installations. Must be able to obtain security clearance or meet access requirements for naval shipyards. Must be able to meet the physical requirements of the job. Must be able to pass an Audiogram & Respirator Fit Test. Must be able to communicate effectively to exchange and comprehend information both verbally & electronically with customers & supervisors. Must have familiarity using MS Office products (i.e. Word, Outlook, etc.). Benefits
