Responsibilities
Installation, modification and repair of automated industrial control equipment
Strong understanding of software utilized within programmable logic control (PLC) systems
Design, plan, install and maintain industrial control equipment and instrumentation such as loop controllers, variable frequency drives, solid state reduced voltage starters, level controls, Ethernet motor control centers, belt scales, and control panels
Thorough understanding of mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical systems
Work off‑shifts, weekends and holidays as needed
Assist in routine planned maintenance and emergency repairs of plant equipment, including conveyors, bucket elevators and washing/drying equipment
Troubleshoot mechanical equipment, PLCs and ladder diagrams, AC and DC circuits, electrical sensors and switches, motor controls and safety circuits
Install, troubleshoot and repair electric motors and equipment (120, 240 and 480V)
Use basic hand tools and machine shop equipment; operate all electrical test equipment required for production equipment repairs
Complete preventive maintenance tasks as scheduled and document finished work
Contact vendors to source replacement components for all electrical/electronic equipment
May drive a pick‑up truck or maintenance vehicle within the plant or to local vendors
Other duties as assigned
Education and Experience
High School Diploma or equivalent required
Associate’s degree preferred
Journeyman Electrician License preferred
Four years combined schooling and industrial experience required
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Strong machine electrical background
Input/output knowledge (hardwired/discrete, digital/ethernet, and analog) and ability to read electrical schematics
Proven PLC troubleshooting experience – Allen Bradley RS 5000 a must, with networking (Ethernet, ControlNet, DeviceNet, etc.) experience desired. PLC background writing, debugging, developing and troubleshooting PLCs desired
Proven HMI programming experience preferred (Wonderware)
Computer skills – Windows environment, loading and setup of various software platforms desired
Work in adverse conditions such as heat, wet, cold, noise, etc.
Willingness to work overtime when required
Ability to troubleshoot electrical and mechanical problems
Read mechanical and electrical prints
Excellent analytical skills, data interpretation
Knowledge of safety practices such as MSHA, lockout/tagout, NFPA 70E and proper use of PPE
Strong communication skills
Working Conditions & Physical Requirements
All duties require outside assignments and work in all weather conditions—heat, cold, wet or dry and dusty
Work in areas with noise levels up to 85 dB
Safety‑sensitivity position
Climb stairs, ladders, reach, stoop, squat, tolerate prolonged standing/walking, balance, bend, twist, crawl, kneel, push and pull objects
Operate hand controls with both hands
Operate mobile equipment and foot pedals with both feet
Perform sustained overhead reaching
Tolerate working outdoors in all environmental temperatures and weather
Work in compromised noise levels and cramped quarters
Lift objects of various dimensions and weights; lift up to 50 pounds, carry up to 150 ft
Tolerate working at heights up to 150 ft
Normal depth perception, vision and color discrimination
All personnel may be required to perform duties outside of their normal responsibilities from time to time, as needed.
