Inspect construction or reconstruction of public works and development projects including water, sewer, streets, and drainage improvements. Ensure construction work is performed in accordance with applicable plans, standards, and specifications. Responsibilities
Inspect all aspects of Public Works Construction on capital improvement and development projects. Ensure construction work is performed in accordance with applicable plans, standards, and specifications. Communicate and coordinate with office personnel and contractors regarding scheduling, construction methods, public safety, and field problems. Coordinate and review testing on water, sanitary sewer, concrete, and soils. Review and confirm quantities for payment on capital improvement projects. Maintain ‘as built’ conditions on field plans. Responsible for efficient and safe operation, care, and appearance of assigned equipment. Other job duties as may be required. Examples Of Work To Be Performed
Inspect all aspects of Public Works Construction on capital improvement and development projects. Coordinate and review testing on water, sanitary sewer, concrete, and soils. Review and confirm quantities for payment on capital improvement projects. Maintain ‘as built’ conditions on field plans. Responsible for efficient and safe operation, care, and appearance of assigned equipment. Other job duties as may be required. Required Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
Ability to accurately read and interpret civil construction plans and specifications. Working knowledge of public safety and construction site safety requirements. Must be able to lift, carry, push, pull, drag and hold up to 50 lbs. Walk for extended periods of time while performing inspection duties. Climb and crawl into and out of pipes, culverts, manholes, and trenches. Kneel, sit, squat, stand, stoop, and twist while performing inspection duties. Hear and visually inspect work safely in traffic and dangerous construction situations. Communicate effectively with contractors, engineers, developers and the general public. Be able to work indoors and outdoors, including adverse weather conditions, such as extreme cold, heat, heights, temperature swings, and noise. Preferred Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
Ability to review civil construction plans for field related comments Expert knowledge of all civil construction practices. Extensive knowledge of public safety and construction site safety requirements and ability to respond in emergency situations. Required Education, Training And Experience
High school diploma or equivalent. State of Texas drivers license, Class C. Desired Training And Experience
Four years of Public Works construction inspection experience or combined experience and training providing the required knowledge, skills and ability. Additional training or experience in related field. Essential Physical Functions
Climbing: Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms. Body agility is emphasized. Balancing: Maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling and walking, standing or crouching on narrow, slippery, or erratically moving surfaces. Stooping: Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist. Kneeling: Bending legs at knee to come to a rest on knee or knees. Crouching: Bending the body downward and forward by bending leg and spine. Crawling: Moving about on hands and knees or hands and feet. Reaching: Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction. Standing: Particularly for sustained periods of time. Walking: Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one work site to another.
