CALTRANS MAINTENANCE SUPERVISOR
Overview
Working under the direction of a Caltrans Maintenance Area Superintendent, the incumbent is responsible for the supervision and operation of all Field Maintenance employees and maintenance activities by the assigned unit, and ensures that all Department safety practices are in accordance with District, Department, State and Federal policies, procedures, rules and guidelines. Possession of a valid Class C driver's license is required. Supervises and participates in a wide range of work projects undertaken by the assigned unit, including but not limited to rigid pavement maintenance, roadside maintenance, weed control, maintenance of fences, sign replacement and repair, ditches, culverts, litter, debris, sweeping, graffiti, spills, stormwater and NPDES projects, rest areas, vista points, median barrier, snow and ice control and storm maintenance. Plans work for the unit, ensures required personnel, materials, and equipment are available, and prepares daily, weekly, monthly and yearly work plans. Inspects right-of-way and recognizes deficiencies and hazards to initiate appropriate actions. Identifies opportunities and conducts workforce development and succession planning. Eligibility for hire may be determined by a score on the Caltrans Maintenance Supervisor Exam. New hires or transfers may need to be on the state examination list. Position is located at the specified Caltrans office in Redding, CA. Work may occur in extreme conditions, including heat up to 120 degrees, cold to –15 degrees, strong winds, rain, sleet and snow. In the winter, the workweek is normally five 8-hour days; in the summer, the workweek may be four 10-hour days. Scheduling is at the discretion of District Management. Overtime may be required for storms, emergencies, special projects, or as deemed necessary by the Supervisor. Personal safety requirements include wearing work boots; appropriate Caltrans-provided safety gear such as hard hats, safety glasses, hearing protection, face shields, gloves, respirators, chaps, or other safety gear as required. This position is a designated travel crew and requires working out of town up to 80% of the time. Minimum Requirements
