Core responsibilities
Define welding techniques and procedures for a range of applications and qualifications.
Generate and maintain WPS, PQR, and welder qualifications.
Support production using GTAW, GMAW, SMAW, SAW, FCAW, PTAW.
Use welding metallurgy to interpret material specs and troubleshoot complex issues in nontraditional manufacturing and repair scenarios.
Drive continuous improvement: identify and validate new welding processes and techniques for evolving materials.
Plan and manage materials-joining work: schedules, budgets, and resource allocation.
Collaborate with design and manufacturing engineering to resolve joining challenges and provide technical guidance.
Participate in engineering/manufacturing/program reviews; support supplier qualification and procedure assessments; assist with supplier audits.
Mentor engineers; train and guide Weld Development Lab Technicians; uphold code and contract requirements for procedures and personnel qualifications.
Required background
BS in Welding Engineering, Welding Engineering Technology, Metallurgy, or Materials Science; advanced degree desired.
6 years relevant manufacturing experience preferred.
Proficiency with FCAW, GMAW, GTAW, SAW, SMAW, PTAW.
Experience with at least one: ASME Section III & IX, AWS, NAVSEA; familiarity with NAVSEA 250-1500 and ASME Section IX is valuable.
Hands‑on with carbon, alloy, stainless steels; nickel and copper‑based alloys; dissimilar metal welding.
Background as a Welding, Materials, or Manufacturing Engineer.
Excellent communication for authoring and controlling procedures and documentation.
Security requirement Due to DoD requirements, candidates must be U.S. citizens able to obtain and maintain DoD Security clearances and approvals.Proficiency
