Field Service Technician (Columbus, GA) – Southern Rewinding
The Field Service Technician is responsible for repairing various types of electro‑mechanical equipment in the field, including pumps, motors, blowers, and other rotating equipment. The technician will provide on‑site, turn‑key services to customers, performing both mechanical and electrical troubleshooting, conducting repairs, and ensuring the proper functioning of equipment.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Provide on‑site turn‑key services, performing disassembly, inspection, and reassembly of rotating equipment such as pumps, centrifugal and submersible motors, gear reducers, electric motors, and blowers.
Set and adjust tolerances for bearing fit, motor connections, and perform motor testing to ensure optimal performance.
Safely operate forklifts, hoists, cranes and other lifting equipment to move and install large equipment.
Perform field service tasks such as the removal and installation of pumps, electric motors, and other rotating equipment.
Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues within control and pumping systems, ensuring issues are identified and resolved efficiently.
Complete detailed service reports outlining work performed, equipment condition, and any recommendations for future maintenance or repair.
Adhere to all safety policies, practices, and procedures; report any unsafe activities or conditions promptly.
Use field automation systems to track service activities and equipment status.
Perform vibration analysis, laser alignment and on‑site balancing of equipment as necessary.
Minimum Education High School
Minimum Years of Experience 4‑6 years
Specific Qualifications
Experience
Minimum of five (5) years of experience in rotating apparatus field repair, including AC and/or DC electric motors, pumps, blowers, etc.
Experience in an electric motor/job shop environment is highly preferred.
Strong troubleshooting skills in both mechanical and electrical systems.
Preferred knowledge of electrical and mechanical theory, vibration analysis, and laser alignment techniques.
Availability
– Must be available for on‑call work and overtime when required.
Skills
Proficient in troubleshooting and diagnosing mechanical and electrical issues.
Ability to perform vibration analysis, laser alignment, and balancing.
Strong communication skills for interacting with customers and completing service reports.
Licensing
– Valid driver’s license required (local only, within 150 miles). Overnight stays are rare.

Regularly required to stand, walk, use hands for handling or feeling, and reach with hands and arms.
Frequently required to climb, balance, and kneel.
Occasionally required to sit, stoop, crouch, or crawl.
