Position

Composite Bonding – level 3

(Aeronautics Systems) – Operations team, located in Clearfield, UT. Working on bonds of dissimilar materials (composite, metal, or laminate) into semi-finished or finished products.

Please note: Only external candidates and NG employees who are not currently aircraft structures mechanics at the Clearfield site will be considered under this requisition.

What You’ll Do

Read and interpret blueprints. Lay out articles, cut parts or materials to size and apply liquid or solid bonding agents. Understand ply orientations and vacuum bagging processes. Operate autoclave, hydraulic presses and ovens to complete bonding cycles. Control heat, pressure, and timing by setting and operating various controls according to material specifications and bonding agents. Sand, burrs and smooth areas, apply sealing resins to cut or exposed edges. Monitor and verify quality of finished product. Complete repairs on composite, metal or laminate bonded products using inspection and rework instructions; verify quality of finished product.

Position Requirements

This position requires at least four years of experience with a complete understanding of the detailed aspects of the job and practical applications to problems typically encountered. The candidate will receive limited supervision with few instructions for routine work and general instructions on new activities or special assignments. May assist in orienting, training, assigning and checking the work of lower-level employees.

Basic Qualifications

High School diploma or GED with at least 4 years of relatable composite fabrication or bonding experience in a manufacturing/production environment. DoD Secret Security Clearance and program access required to start, but not required to apply. Ability to perform moderate strenuous physical and repetitious work: lifting over 25 pounds, working with chemicals, prolonged overhead work, climbing ladders, kneeling, bending or stooping, and carrying tools. Ability to access small, confined spaces and work in enclosed environments. Ability to work flexible, changing shifts, including weekends. Must successfully complete and pass the “ASTAR New Hire Training / Compliance” within a reasonable time period as defined by the company to meet its business need.

Preferred Qualifications

Completion of AFAB Certification (115- Structures, 120- Composites, 110- Blueprints, 130- Ethics). Experience with hydraulic parts, aircraft fabrication, assemblies, components, and systems in aerospace, automotive, military, manufacturing and/or maintenance environments. Active DoD Secret Clearance with a background investigation completed within the last six years with the ability to obtain program access. Experience with high temperature composite materials including BMI and Polyimide. Experience with structural subassemblies, including bonding, co-bonding, core bonding and bagging.

Compensation and Benefits

Primary Level Salary Range: $24.62 - $41.06 per hour. The salary range represents a general guideline; actual offers consider scope and responsibilities, candidate experience, education, skills and market conditions. Overtime, shift differential, and discretionary bonuses may apply. Benefits include health, life and disability insurance, savings plan, company-paid holidays and PTO.
