Job Summary: Cardiac Device Technician will provide thorough, proficient interrogation and reprogramming of Cardiac Implantable Electronic Devices (CIED), commonly known as pacemakers and ICDs. These patients may present in person, remotely, and/or via phone transmission. Technicians may be responsible for initial device analysis, preliminary report generation, and alerting physicians or non-physician practitioners to urgent issues requiring further attention.
Essential Responsibilities: Interrogates, reprograms, and performs function analysis of CIEDs according to physician orders and under supervision of a Physician or mid-level provider (NP or PA). Performs clinical analysis of pacemaker and ICD patients both in the clinic and remotely. Uses various device programmers such as Medtronic, Boston Scientific, and St. Jude Medical proficiently on a daily basis. Performs initial interrogation, threshold testing, reviews diagnostics, reprograms devices, and prints final reports for physician review. Documents procedures in the Specialized Clinics flow sheet within EHR, following the assigned physician's standard. Relays physician recommendations to patients regarding device adjustments. Coordinates and arranges low-volume device interrogations, including ELA and Biotronik, and enters orders in EMR as per protocol. Provides support and coverage for the Cardiac Monitoring Center as needed. Manages remote monitoring programs such as Merlin.net, Carelink, Latitude, and telephonic CIED analysis rooms for device patients and office visits. Performs serial reprogramming during Cardiac Resynchronization Therapy clinics. Maintains ongoing competency in device electrocardiograph monitoring, scanning, analysis, and report generation for physicians. Possesses knowledge of ICD interrogation and function analysis concepts. Conducts ICD reprogramming as ordered by physicians. Recognizes normal device function and programming during CIED implant procedures per facility policy.
