The Fleet technician 2 will repair and diagnose major components or service/remove/replace major components of various truck and trailing equipment at the direction of the shop manager. Expectations include the ability to diagnose and repair fleet equipment with little or no supervision. Conduct Preventive Maintenance (PM) Services. Service and repair tires as needed.

Essential Job Functions:

Comply with all safety and best practices and follow company Standard Operating Procedures (SOP)

Demonstrate gaining proficiency in the inspection, repair and diagnosis of - with some assistance: diesel engines, power train to include differentials, transmissions, clutches, drive shafts, wheel ends. Electrical systems including starters, alternators and lights. HVAC systems. Steering systems. Electronics to include ECM's, ECU's, sensors etc. Engine bolt on items such as turbos, fan clutches, cooling system etc. Brake systems including ABS & air disk brakes. Suspension systems (spring and air) including tire issues, and after treatment devices such as DPF and DOC

Perform electrical system repairs, cooling system maintenance and preform complete vehicle diagnosis

Perform mechanical and general appearance reconditioning of equipment for "trade-ins" and prepare new equipment for delivery

Must be annual vehicle inspector certified and brake inspector certified (per DOT requirements)

Perform all levels of PM services on truck and trailing equipment as well as DOT inspections

Identify warrantable repairs and document on repair order

Maintain work area appearance and safely

Road test vehicles when necessary to diagnose malfunctions or to ensure that they are working properly

Use hand tools such as screwdrivers, pliers, wrenches, pressure gauges, and precision instruments, as well as power tools such as pneumatic wrenches, welding equipment, and jacks and hoists

Perform routine maintenance such as changing oil, checking batteries, and lubricating equipment and machinery

Ensure compliance with DOT standards and properly document work completed

Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions, using test instruments such as handheld computers, wiring diagrams, and pressure gauges

Examine and adjust protective guards, loose bolts, and specified safety devices. Inspect and verify dimensions and clearances of parts to ensure conformance to factory specifications

Other projects and tasks as assigned by supervisor

Provide customer service to the drivers who need maintenance work

Maintain inventory of and care for company tools

Proficiently enter all transactions within the maintenance system

Identify and determine parts required for repair of disassembled units

Specialize in repairing and troubleshooting of major components such as engine, transmissions and differentials, to include replacing complete assemblies, turbochargers, fuel system components etc

Minimum Qualifications:

2-4 years practical experience with tractor trailer maintenance required

High school diploma or equivalent required

Vocational / technical or certification preferred

Demonstrated customer service and relationship building skills

Broad understanding of fleet maintenance policies, DOT standards and industry practices

Organized with the ability to deal with multiple activities in a fast-paced environment

Specialized training in the repair and replacement of vehicle components preferred

Proficient in the use of shop tools required

Team player with excellent communication skills

Strong work ethic

Excellent communication skills- Must be able to communicate in English, both verbally and written, and can read and understand English

Clean MVR and able to operate service truck

A valid CDL Class A license is required- (with air brake endorsement)

Basic computer skills to enter data into maintenance software system is required

Results orientated with the ability to work with minimal supervision in non-climate-controlled environment required

Ability to travel as needed for various training required

Must have own tools (hand and pneumatic) sufficient to do any job that is required

Forklift certified operator’s license preferred
