Position Purpose:

The primary purpose of the Pipe Fitter is to be responsible for working on HVAC systems. You will be installing, assembling, fabricating, maintaining, and repairing closed loop piping systems in industrial, commercial, and occasionally residential environments while working alongside the HVAC Mechanical Service Team.

Pipe Fitter Duties and Responsibilities

Pipe Installation and Assembly: Measure, cut, thread, and bend pipes to required specifications; install pipes, valves, fittings, and other components according to blueprints and layout specifications; secure pipes to walls, structures, and fixtures using brackets, clamps, and tools.

Maintenance and Repair: Inspect, test, and maintain piping systems to ensure proper functioning; detect leaks or obstructions and repair or replace faulty components; perform regular system check‑ups to ensure pipes are free from rust, blockages, or damages.

Reading Blueprints and Schematics: Interpret construction blueprints, schematics, and diagrams to layout pipe systems; ensure adherence to local building and safety codes, as well as project specifications.

Welding and Soldering: Use welding, brazing, soldering, or cementing methods to join pipes and components; work with different materials, including steel, copper, plastic, and alloy piping.

Safety Compliance: Follow safety protocols to ensure a safe work environment, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE); identify and mitigate potential hazards in the workplace.

Tools and Equipment: Operate specialized tools such as pipe threaders, cutters, bending machines, and welding equipment; maintain and care for tools and equipment to ensure they are in good working condition.

Education, Knowledge, Experience & Critical Skills Required

High school diploma or equivalent; certification or apprenticeship in pipe fitting or a related field is typically required.

Proficient in reading and interpreting technical documents and blueprints.

Strong knowledge of different piping systems and materials (steel, copper, PVC, etc.).

Familiarity with various hand and power tools.

Good manual dexterity and attention to detail.

Ability to work independently or as part of a team.

Experience with welding and soldering is often preferred.

Operational knowledge of computers and Microsoft Office software preferred.

Ability to read, comprehend, and write simple instructions and short correspondence.

Ability to perform basic mathematics (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) in all units of measure.

Must pass pre‑hire requirements including background check, motor vehicle report, and drug screening.

Must possess a valid driver’s license.

Physical Demand Requirements

Regularly required to stand, talk, hear, and use hands/fingers in order to grasp, handle, feel.

Frequently required to walk, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, climb ladders, and/or crawl; occasionally required to sit.

Must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently up to 50 pounds, and occasionally up to 75 pounds.

Requires close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Occasional exposure to extreme hot and/or extreme cold, wet and humid conditions, elevated and precarious workplaces, fumes or airborne particles, risk of electrical shock, and vibration.

Loud noise level in the work environment is typical.
