Base pay range $105,000.00/yr - $130,000.00/yr

Job Summary:

The Metallurgy Manager leads metallurgical operations, process optimization, and quality assurance to ensure metals and alloys meet production and performance standards. This role combines technical expertise with leadership responsibilities—managing metallurgical teams, overseeing laboratory and plant activities, and driving continuous improvement in product quality, efficiency, and innovation.

Key Responsibilities: Leadership & Management:

Lead, mentor, and develop a team of metallurgists, technicians, and laboratory staff.

Plan, coordinate, and prioritize metallurgical and quality-related activities.

Collaborate cross-functionally with production, engineering, and maintenance teams to meet operational goals.

Establish and maintain safety, environmental, and quality standards within metallurgical operations.

Technical & Process Control:

Oversee metallurgical processes such as smelting, refining, casting, heat treatment, and alloy development.

Analyze metallurgical performance data and implement process improvements to enhance product quality, yield, and cost efficiency.

Ensure compliance with technical specifications, industry standards (e.g., ASTM, ISO), and customer requirements.

Manage metallurgical testing, failure analysis, and root cause investigations.

Lead initiatives for metallurgical innovation, sustainability, and process automation.

Strategic & Continuous Improvement:

Develop and execute strategic plans for metallurgical operations and R&D.

Evaluate new technologies, materials, and methods to improve competitiveness.

Implement lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, or similar methodologies to optimize workflows.

Monitor KPIs (e.g., recovery rates, product quality, scrap reduction) and drive performance improvements.

Reporting & Documentation:

Prepare and present technical reports, performance summaries, and improvement proposals to senior management.

Manage budgets, capital projects, and metallurgical resource allocation.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science, or related discipline (Master’s preferred).

8–12+ years of progressive experience in metallurgy, including at least 3–5 years in a supervisory or managerial role.

Strong knowledge of metallurgical processes, metal behavior, and testing methods.

Proven leadership and team development skills.

Experience in quality management systems (ISO 9001 or equivalent).

Proficiency with metallurgical data analysis and simulation tools (e.g., Thermo-Calc, FactSage, MATLAB, or similar).

Excellent problem-solving, decision-making, and communication abilities.

Preferred Experience (Optional):

Background in [specific industry—e.g., mining, steel, aluminum, foundry, automotive, or aerospace].

Experience with sustainability initiatives and waste minimization in metallurgical operations.

Knowledge of lean manufacturing or Six Sigma certification.

Combination of plant and laboratory environments.

Exposure to high temperatures, heavy machinery, and industrial settings; adherence to PPE and safety standards required.
