Geotechnical Engineer - Phoenix, AZ

Responsibilities
Scope, plan, and execute site characterization studies and field/laboratory investigations. Manage work by geotechnical subconsultants including drilling firms, geophysical and special testing consultants, and testing labs. Develop geologic and geotechnical designs, plans, specifications, and cost estimates for major transportation and infrastructure projects. Support and execute geotechnical analysis and design of foundations, retaining walls, slope stability, site grading, ground improvement, and pavement systems. Provide QA/QC reviews of geotechnical deliverables, including those prepared by subconsultants. Partner with single and multidisciplinary teams through all phases of a project—from concept to construction support. Deliver projects on time and on budget while helping clients navigate complex geotechnical challenges. Provide geotechnical planning, oversight and review in the role of Owner's Engineer for Alternative Delivery projects. Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree 10 years of experience Requires professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board for the location of the position offered (e.g., PE or P.Eng) Experience with Microsoft Office applications, GIS, and CADD, as appropriate Experience with GeoStudio/Ensoft slope stability, settlement, seepage, and deep foundation response software Experience with Bentley geotechnical data management and visualization software (gINT/OpenGround/LeapFrog) Knowledge of advanced numerical modeling techniques (Finite Difference, Finite Element, Discrete Element) and commercial software (Bentley, PLAXIS, Itasca FLAC) Active participation in professional societies (ASCE, AEG, DFI, Geo Institute of ASCE) An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture Preferred Qualifications
Master's in Civil, Geotechnical, Geological, or related Engineering 8+ years of geotechnical or geological engineering experience Hands-on experience with subsurface investigations, field/lab testing, foundation design, slope stability, settlement, and ground improvement Experience with software such as SHAFT, LPILE, SETTLE3D, SLOPE/W, SEEP/W, RocScience programs, AASHTO MEPDG Experience with GIS or Civil 3D Active participation in professional societies (ASCE, AEG, DFI, Geo Institute of ASCE) Excellent interpersonal skills, technical writing ability, and the ability to thrive in a collaborative, fast-paced environment Why HDR?
