Job Summary

The Equipment Operator operates light to moderately complex construction equipment for construction and maintenance of City facilities and utilities in Dallas. Essential Functions

Operate, drive, and safely use light and moderately complex equipment such as rubber–tired backhoes, tracked excavators, loaders, bobcats, street sweepers, cranes, soil compactors, and front–end loaders. Navigate and excavate asphalt and concrete, clear debris and blockages from creeks, and maintain the sanitary sewer system. Drive trucks and trailer rigs to transport earth moving equipment to job sites, adhering to safety standards and regulations. Load, transport, and unload construction materials such as sand, flexbase, asphalt, gravel, and other supplies from city stockpiles or vendors. Perform minor mechanical repairs and maintenance procedures on construction equipment. Maintain cleanliness of material storage areas, construction sites, and public streets. Complete daily activity reports to document progress and assist supervisors. Perform other related duties as required or assigned. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of equipment operation and capabilities. Knowledge of and adherence to safety procedures. Strong motor skills and eye–hand–foot coordination. Ability to control the speed and direction of light and moderately complex motorized equipment. Proficiency with various types of equipment. Skill in performing minor mechanical repair and maintenance work. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships. Minimum Qualifications

Three (3) years of experience operating light to medium equipment (e.g., backhoe, rotary boom, front–end loaders, etc.) used in excavation, construction, utility, landfill, or street sweeping operations. Licenses and Certifications

Texas driver’s license with good driving history. Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class B. Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class A and Texas Commission of Environmental Quality license preferred. For CDL holders issued by a state other than Texas, obtain a Texas Class A or B CDL within ninety (90) days. Salary Range

$47,809.85 – $53,172.61 per year (starting salary range; actual offer depends on qualifications). City of Dallas is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
