Water Treatment Plant Operator ($8,000 Hiring Bonus) – Prospect Lake Clean Water Center
The City of Fort Lauderdale is now offering a
$8,000 signing bonus
to external candidates who successfully complete the selection process and are hired as a Water Treatment Plant Operator for the new Prospect Lake Clean Water Center. Current City employees are not eligible for the Hiring Incentive Bonus.
A Water Treatment Plant Operator must possess a Class "C" Water Operator's License. If a Class "B" License is obtained, the operator will receive $75.00 biweekly as Certification Incentive Pay. An additional $75.00 biweekly (for a total of $150.00 biweekly) will be paid when a Class "A" License is achieved. Reimbursement will be provided for successful completion of the coursework necessary to obtain the Class "B" and "A" Licenses.
This position performs progressively responsible work in the operation and maintenance of a treatment plant and related equipment. Responsibilities include monitoring automated plant equipment through visual inspection, maintaining plant logs, taking and analyzing samples, preparing reports, operating and adjusting equipment, collaborating with maintenance staff on projects, ensuring safety compliance, and attending department meetings and safety classes.
Responsibilities
Performs chemical analysis to ensure it meets highest quality standards
Observes and reports anomalies in quality or equipment around the plant
Monitors injection well tests; inspects storage tanks around the plant
Assists in the preparation of various reports; documents sampling results on plant documents
Reads a variety of charts and meters; maintains accurate log sheets
Collects samples from different stages of treatment for chemical, physical, or biological analysis
Prepares work order requests to repair or calibrate plant equipment
Records and orders chemicals and supplies needed to test samples; receives and logs all chemicals and supplies delivered
Assists in transferring chemicals from bulk tanks to day tanks as needed
Attends department meetings and/or safety classes as requested
Ensures compliance with safety regulations and standard operating procedures and Federal, State, and County regulations
Operates and adjusts pumps, agitators, computers, valves, and other equipment to maintain the highest degree of treatment
Collaborates with maintenance staff on specific projects from an operational perspective; adjusts or bypasses specific processes to ensure consistent treatment, plant integrity, and safety
Receives, tests, stores, monitors, changes, and returns liquid chlorine cylinders as needed
Works around high voltage, rotating equipment, and various hazardous chemicals
May assist in instructing trainees on plant operation
Performs related work as required
Minimum Job Requirements
High School Diploma, G.E.D., or foreign education equivalent
Minimum of one (1) year of experience in the operation of a water treatment plant
Current State of Florida Class "C" Certified Water Operator's license in compliance with Florida Administrative Code and all revisions
Prior work experience with membrane technologies (nanofiltration or ion exchange systems) is preferred
Veteran's Preference: if claiming Veteran's Preference, candidates must attach a DD214 Member 4 form and the City of Fort Lauderdale's veteran's preference claim form (J-204) to the online application
