Job Description Powell is a manufacturer of switchgear and other electrical equipment. We are currently hiring a Painter/Blaster at our Southeast Houston manufacturing facility. Schedule: Monday-Thursday 3:00pm-1:30am; OT as needed.

Position Summary Paint raw steel platforms and various products and equipment.

Essential Responsibilities

Paint raw steel platforms and various products and equipment.

Move platforms and various products using a overhead crane or forklift.

Perform Wet Painting tasks in a safe and timely manner.

Occasionally perform general labor and cleaning tasks as directed by supervisor or leadperson.

Keep up with routine maintenance procedures and cleaning equipment.

Document inspections and paint usage in proper records.

Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma or General Education Diploma preferred.

Minimum 2 years of experience in wet painting, sandblasting and surface preparation techniques.

Ability to perform basic math functions.

Proficient with use of Airless and Conventional paint spraying systems with very minimal to no defects.

Knowledge of wet painting and proper paint mixing technique (ex: two-part Epoxy primer and Polyurethane paint).

Skills, Abilities & Other Requirements

Basic command of English language, both written and verbal.

Proficient with use of Steel Grit Blasting equipment and knowledge of basic maintenance.

Ability to work independently or as part of a small team with little supervision.

Maintain a clean work area by picking up trash, sweeping the floor and disposing of paints and solvents appropriately throughout and at the end of the shift.

Recognize a Commercial Grade Blast cleaning on steel.

Use a wet paint film thickness gauge and dry film thickness gauge.

Use a dial thickness gauge to achieve appropriate anchor profile of required blast.

Recognize and properly repair defects in paint finish (runs, holidays, orange peel).

Perform basic troubleshooting on Airless and Conventional paint spraying equipment.

Follow directions, company operating procedures, safety rules and ISO requirements.

Work up to 12-hour shifts upon request; frequently required to work a 6th day (Saturday) and occasionally a 7th day (Sunday).

Working & Environmental Conditions

Stand and walk on concrete floor continuously for a minimum of 8 hours per day.

Lift metal objects up to 50 pounds frequently for a minimum of 8 hours per day.

Pass a breathing test and full-face respirator fitment test.
