Job Summary The Arizona Department of Administration, General Services Division, is seeking a skilled and proactive Building Engineer to support the Arizona State Hospital. The Building Engineer will maintain, repair, and operate all building systems and equipment, coordinate work requests, manage vendor relationships, and perform preventive maintenance to maximize equipment life expectancy.
Job Duties
Troubleshoot, maintain, inspect, modify, and repair building systems such as plumbing, electrical, HVAC, fire alarms, sprinklers, elevators, and more.
Perform periodic preventive maintenance on mechanical, electrical, HVAC, and plumbing systems, including lubrication, adjustments, cleaning, part replacement, and testing.
Use the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) for work orders, parts ordering, updates, and completion data.
Work a 24/7 schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays, and respond to after‑hours requests.
Provide excellent customer service to facility staff, contractors, and vendors.
Identify opportunities to improve equipment performance and longevity.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs)
Electrical, mechanical, EMS, HVAC, and stationary engineering systems, plumbing, and drain supply water systems.
OSHA and local, state, and federal codes.
Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and ladder diagrams.
Current construction principles, methods, and techniques.
Proficiency with CMMS systems.
Skills In
Estimating time and material requirements.
Installation, repair, and maintenance of HVAC systems.
Effective customer service and communication.
Interpreting blueprints, schematics, and laboratory diagrams.
Ability To
Diagnose problems across a wide variety of systems and equipment.
Inspect, service, repair, and install refrigeration, flooring, roofing, fire alarm, electrical switches, and miscellaneous building items.
Communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
Maintain records and prepare reports.
Be flexible, adapt to changing priorities, and work under pressure.
Selective Preference(s)
Five years of previous building operations engineering experience, with emphasis in electrical, plumbing, mechanical, or HVAC.
Pre-Employment Requirements
EPA universal certification for refrigerant recovery.
Valid Arizona driver’s license.
Background and reference check, including criminal records verification.
Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification (E‑Verify).
