Hyundai America Technical Center, Inc. (HATCI)
Sr. FRT & RR Suspension Engineer
Hyundai America Technical Center, Inc. (HATCI), Simi Valley, California, United States
Overview
Hyundai America Technical Center, Inc. (HATCI) is searching for a Senior Engineer for the Chassis Engineering Team I. The team oversees the design, development, and release of front and rear suspension, steering systems, and wheels and tires. What You Will Do
Lead Suspension Design:
Drive the end-to-end design of front and rear suspension components (e.g., control arms, springs, dampers, linkages, subframes, bushings) using CATIA V5, generate detailed 3D models and 2D drawings, and oversee CAD release for prototyping and production. Mechanical Analysis:
Coordinate FEA and kinematic/dynamic analyses with Hyundai\'s CAE groups to meet strength, stiffness, durability, and ride/handling targets; analyze loads (static, dynamic, fatigue); iterate designs for weight, cost, and performance. Concept Development:
Develop suspension concepts and packaging layouts considering geometry, articulation, ground clearance, steering geometry, and off-road requirements; ensure concepts align with project requirements and standards. Validation Planning and Testing:
Define, support, and execute validation plans for suspension systems; create test plans, lead prototype builds, and support bench and full-vehicle tests (durability, NVH, ride comfort, handling, off-road performance); correlate test data with simulations and refine designs as needed. Supplier Coordination:
Collaborate with Tier-1 suppliers on component design and development; provide technical direction, review supplier CAD models/drawings, and manage the supplier design review process to meet specifications and quality standards. Design Review and Documentation:
Lead and participate in design reviews, DFMEA/PFMEA, and design-for-manufacturing discussions; prepare and maintain engineering documents (specifications, test reports, control plans) and ensure compliance with standards. Problem Solving and Continuous Improvement:
Investigate and resolve engineering issues during development and post-launch; implement corrective actions and drive continuous improvement of suspension designs and processes; review IQS, VDS, JP Power, and Consumer reports to support warranty and quality. Cross-functional Collaboration:
Work with manufacturing, quality, and product engineering teams to ensure designs are feasible for production and service; participate in APQP/PPAP-type processes for vehicle program launches. Leadership and Mentorship:
Act as a technical lead within the chassis/suspension team; mentor junior engineers and promote high standards for quality and innovation. Travel up to 20% of the time, domestically and internationally. What You Will Bring to the Role
