Overview
Mechanical Facility Engineer (Engineer II) at Nevada National Security Site (NNSS) for Mission Support and Test Services, LLC (MSTS).
Mission: to help ensure the security of the United States and its allies by providing high-hazard experimentation and incident response capabilities, environmental stewardship, and related services. MSTS operates NNSS for the U.S. NNSA. Our workforce includes 2,750+ professionals and support personnel.
Responsibilities
Perform duties as a facility/system engineer (Mechanical Engineer II) at the Principal Underground Laboratory for Subcritical Experimentation (PULSE) Facility within the MSTS Stockpile Experimentation & Operations Directorate, located in NNSS forward areas.
Maintain cognizance of assigned facility systems; provide systems engineering support for operations and maintenance; support line management safety responsibilities to ensure continued system operational readiness.
Validate physical configuration of assigned systems; maintain and update system documents for Configuration Management (CM); act as SME for assigned systems.
Conduct or oversee In-service Inspection and Technical Surveillance Requirement execution for assigned systems.
Contribute to solutions of assignment-related problems of moderate scope and complexity using established standards, practices, and procedures; evaluate applicable standards and processes as needed.
Participate in developing field programs and designs using predetermined principles and practices.
Select and implement computer applications for the field; prepare or contribute to designs, strategies, reports, and technical proposals.
Perform design and technical analysis using prescribed codes and standards, software, and best management practices.
Coordinate discipline information with other departments and outside vendors; work with vendors to obtain relevant information.
Develop knowledge of codes and standards of other disciplines; coordinate work within the discipline on moderately complex projects; often serve as a member of work teams.
Define specifications for procurements and initiate purchase requests; may monitor work of technicians and other support personnel.
Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in an ABET-accredited engineering program (Civil, Mechanical, or Electrical) OR a calculus-based STEM bachelor’s degree in engineering OR NCARB certification for Architects OR Professional Engineer license.
Plus at least 2 years of relevant experience. Demonstrated ability to interpret codes and standards applicable to the position.
Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to write reports and technical documents.
Knowledge of instrumentation & control, electrical, mechanical, or electromechanical components; self-motivation and ability to work with minimal supervision.
Strong time-management, organization, safe work habits, and broad technical interests and education.
Ability to learn and innovate; willingness to follow instructions and procedures.
Location: Forward area of NNSS (approximately 80 miles northwest of Las Vegas, NV).
Work schedule: 4/10s, Monday – Thursday (subject to change).
Pre-placement physical examination, including a drug screen; MSTS substance abuse policy with random drug testing.
Must possess a valid driver’s license.
Security: MSTS is required by DOE directive to conduct pre-employment drug testing and a background review. Employment is subject to a federal background investigation for access to classified information. Applicants must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship and at least 18 years of age.
Compliance: DOE Order 472.2 and 10 CFR Part 707.4; counterintelligence evaluations may be required; references to applicable regulations are provided.
Compensation and Status Annual salary range: $81,307.20 - $121,971.20. Starting salary determined based on market value, education, experience, and internal equity. Employment type: Full-time. Seniority level: Entry level.
