Mechanical Engineer - Auxiliary Systems
Sterling Heights, MI | Contract Position | $33.45-$38.45/Hour | Secret Clearance required
Join a team dedicated to designing and producing armored combat and support vehicles. As a prime mover in ground force capabilities, this firm provides innovative solutions that ensure the safety and effectiveness of military personnel worldwide, focusing on durability, mobility, and performance.
Responsibilities
Design and release mechanical and fluid components/subsystems such as hydraulic and pneumatic systems, automatic fire suppression, fuel and camera cleaning systems, LRU cooling, winch and fairlead mechanisms.
Additional mechanical responsibilities may include shock/vibration isolation and mounting of devices, integration of stowage equipment, seating, and crew accommodations, battery enclosures and driver control components.
Develop system architectures, schematics, and models for fluid and distributed systems to meet performance, safety, and survivability standards.
Assist in the design, analysis, and integration of components including mechanical brackets, welded structures, and mounting provisions.
Apply principles of mechanics of materials, material selection, and fabrication techniques to support manufacturing and assembly.
Perform tolerance stack‑ups, mark‑up engineering drawings/models, and generate data for Engineering Change Proposals (ECPs).
Participate in prototype and production builds, including fit checks, integration reviews, and troubleshooting support.
Generate shop and material requests, manage part tracking and delivery, and provide input for build and test activities.
Conduct failure analyses and contribute to corrective redesign efforts.
Present technical updates and design reviews to internal teams, leadership, and customers.
Interface with cross‑functional teams and customers to define subsystem/component requirements aligned to vehicle‑level needs.
Travel up to 20% to other facilities or military installations as needed.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Mechatronics Engineering (Electrical Engineering accepted with mechanical system experience).
1–3 years of engineering experience; fluid/distributed systems experience is a plus.
Coursework or experience in materials, welding, and fabrication is preferred.
Experience with NX or Creo CAD tools.
Familiarity with Teamcenter, Vis Mockup, and Microsoft Office Suite.
Must be eligible to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance.
Must be able to work on and around military vehicles, including occasional weekends, evenings, or overtime.
