Roadway Engineer

Responsibilities Support the design and delivery of transportation projects from concept through completion. The Project Engineer – Roadway performs roadway design tasks, assists with utility coordination, prepares construction documents, and conducts site investigations. The role collaborates closely with Project Managers, Senior Engineers, and technical staff to provide accurate, efficient, and high‑quality engineering solutions.
Receive project direction, provide regular updates on progress, challenges, and proposed solutions.
Research and evaluate design alternatives, preparing findings and recommendations for project plans.
Support the design, development, and implementation of engineering solutions, ensuring compliance with standards, budgets, and schedules.
Perform roadway design tasks including horizontal and vertical alignments, typical sections, drainage and hydraulic analysis, erosion control plans, quantity tabulations, cost estimates, and general plan production.
Assist in preparing and reviewing construction drawings, specifications, engineering calculations, and supporting documentation.
Assist in utility coordination, preparing and updating utility conflict matrices, subsurface utility engineering requests, and reviewing utility work schedules.
Collaborate with clients, subconsultants, technical staff, and managers to achieve high‑quality project outcomes on time and within budget.
Support Project Managers and Senior Engineers with task production, project documentation, and recordkeeping.
Travel as needed to perform site investigations, observe construction activities, and prepare and review reports and exhibits.
Provide directions on resource management, task prioritization, and technical problem‑solving.
Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering.
2‑5 years of experience in a similar role or relevant internship experience.
EI/EIT Certification or ability to obtain within one year of hire.
Basic knowledge of AutoCAD (Civil3D) or OpenRoads Designer.
Knowledge of FDOT Design Manual, Design Standards, Florida Greenbook, MUTCD, and current design and construction practices.
