Responsibilities
Assist with on‑site installation, troubleshooting, testing, splicing, repairing, and maintaining telephone and network equipment, customer premise equipment, Video/CATV/DBS, fiber optic/copper facilities, and other TDS products and services for new and existing customers.
Identify location of defective cable using test equipment and repair buried, aerial, underground, and customer cable; locate, mark, and protect company underground and buried facilities.
Respond to “trouble” dispatches and perform troubleshooting support techniques and corrections.
Maintain cross‑connects, line groups, network elements, and other record systems.
Provide excellent customer service, proactively educate and sell TDS products and services to customers.
Gain working knowledge of RUS Standards and Grounding practices associated with splicing and maintenance of outside plant facilities and equipment.
Required Qualifications
Valid driver’s license.
Follow TDS attendance guidelines to meet business needs.
Must be available for on‑call/standby responsibilities; may require occasional travel and overtime work as needed.
Complete all components of the Safety Course curriculum at hire.
Maintain DOT requirements for operating vehicles with a GVRW >10,000 lbs.
A+ certification and computer networking experience.
Ability to work independently with little or no supervision.
Strong customer service and sales skills with effective verbal and written communication.
Proven organizational and multitasking abilities.
Ability to operate vehicles with manual transmissions.
Other Qualifications
Complete customer‑specific background check.
Pass all Safety Course curriculum components.
Understand telecommunication products and services: Inside Wiring/Cable, Internet/Intranet, Bonding & Grounding, Data & Computers/Transmission Concepts, Fiber Optic Transmission, Static Sensitive Equipment, Video/CATV/DBS Installation, Inventory Systems, Cable Locating, Battery Maintenance, Key Systems/PBX, Centrex, Switch Maintenance, Voicemail, Special Circuits, Fiber Terminals, Subscriber CXR Terminals, T‑1s, ISPs, DSL, ISDN Voice & Data, Testing & Certifying Loops.
Practical knowledge of computer applications: Databases, Trouble/Repair/Dispatch Systems, Plant Record Systems, MS Outlook, MS Word, MS Excel.
Demonstrated ability to make decisions independently.
Proven organizational and multitasking skills.
Physical Demands and Work Environment Regularly sit, stand, write, and operate a computer keyboard; communicate with customers; move, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; balance or climb; lift up to 50 lbs routinely and up to 100 lbs occasionally; work outdoors, in mechanical/equipment rooms, and in extreme weather conditions.
