Overview

Tectonic is currently seeking qualified Construction Inspectors to perform Special Inspections on a part-time basis during afternoons and weekends. This is an excellent opportunity for experienced professionals to work on a variety of construction projects in a supportive and well-established engineering firm. Responsibilities

Travel to various project sites on a daily basis to monitor construction operations and perform required field inspections and testing using applicable field testing procedures and equipment in accordance with project plans and specifications. Prepare Daily Field Reports and communicate deficiencies observed in the field to project managers, contractors, and/or client representatives. Interpret project-related drawings and documents and perform related duties as assigned. Qualifications

Construction Inspectors must possess a HS Diploma/equivalent and hold/maintain one or more of the following certifications (or equivalent): ACI Concrete Construction Special Inspector; ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician - Grade I; ICC Structural Masonry Special Inspector; ICC Structural Steel & Bolting Special Inspector; ICC Structural Welding Special Inspector; AWS Certified Welding Inspector; BS Degree in Civil Engineering. Certifications must be currently valid. Ability to successfully complete required OSHA training within a reasonable time period. Effective oral and written communication skills. Basic understanding of building inspection codes and requirements to carry out testing, including the International Building Code, ASTM Standards, and TMS standards. Detail oriented. Requires a valid, clean driver's license and personal vehicle to travel to and transport testing equipment to various project sites, primarily throughout the New York City metro area, as regular daily travel is required. Physical Requirements

While performing the essential functions of this position, it is frequently necessary to: Assume a stationary position. Handle, inspect, and/or feel documents, materials and/or equipment relevant to the job. Communicate with colleagues, supervisors, and clients using company email and telephone systems. Move around on the job-site, including ascending or descending on a slope or ladder, and position oneself to access testing materials and equipment, usually for prolonged periods. Lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. for some types of monitoring and inspections. Maintain good visual skills, including depth perception. Operate a motor vehicle as part of daily operations, which may require remaining stationary for extended periods. Employees may also be required to undergo substance abuse testing in accordance with project requirements, US DOT Regulations, and/or Company policy. The employee may occasionally be required to operate a computer and other related office machinery.
